Wikipedia:Rejected Proposal

This Wikipedia page is currently inactive and is retained primarily for historical interest. Per Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines: "A historical page is any proposal for which consensus is unclear, where discussion has died out for whatever reason. Historical pages also include any process no longer in use, or any non-recent log of any process. Historical pages can be revived by advertising them. "
If you want to revive discussion regarding the subject, you should seek broader input via a forum such as the village pump.
This proposed policy is inteded to be integrated with Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines if it is adopted. It is a proposal that does not neccessarily reflect current practice and meant to clarify the usage of the "rejected" template.

The rejected tag should be used only on proposals that have been determined by consensus gathering that it will not be accepted by the community in the near future. Also, once consensus has determined the propsoal rejected, the rejected tag should only be removed with consensus support.

The reason for this formalization is to better clarify what proposals have a chance, and what don't. It also serves to make the tag speak truth - it is hard to say that a proposal has been "rejected by the community" if the community has not gathered consensus for rejecting it. This formalism also puts more weight on the rejected tag - as it would mean more with the support of consensus. This also protects pages from being shut down by a small dissenting group.
