The Reitz Home Museum is a Victorian House Museum located in the downtown portion of Evansville, Indiana on First street. It was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1973. The museum is Evansville's only Victorian House Museum.

[edit] History

John Augustus Reitz built the house in 1871 in the Second French Empire style architecture. His eldest son Francis Joseph took over the house after his death in the 1890s and redecorated the interior in a variety of Victorian styles. In the 1970's the Reitz Home Preservation Society, a non-profit organization, was formed to restore and preserve the home.
