Regia Autonomă de Transport Bucureşti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about the corporation running Bucharest's surface transport network. For more information about that network, see Transport in Bucharest.

Regia Autonomă de Transport Bucureşti is a public transport operator in Bucharest, Romania. It operates a complex network of buses, trams and trolleybuses – in fact, all public transport except the Bucharest Metro, which is managed by Metrorex. While owned entirely by the public sector, RATB is an autonomous corporation.

The RATB public transport services use a separate ticketing system to the Bucharest Metro, often making transfer between the two networks expensive and complicated. Due to this, the two transport systems will be merged from July 2007, when the Bucharest Metropolitan Transport Authority will be established and a single ticketing system will come into force.
