Reginald Demascus Abercrombie was born on July 15, 1980 in Columbus, Georgia. He currently plays for the Florida Marlins as an outfielder, primarily as their starting center fielder. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the June 1999 Major League Baseball Draft, but chose to attend Lake City Community College in Florida during the 1999-2000 school year. After a strong Spring Training in 2006, in which he batted .358 with a .394 on-base percentage and a .627 slugging percentage, the Marlins called him up to the big club.
His ascent to the majors was somewhat surprising, considering he had only had brief stints above Single-A ball. Though once viewed as a marginal prospect, the Marlins have high hopes for him. He joins a rookie cast that includes Hanley Ramírez, Dan Uggla, Jeremy Hermida, Josh Willingham, Eric Reed, Mike Jacobs, and Scott Olsen, all of which represent a promising future for the club, but may struggle early on as a result of their inexperience. In Abercrombie's July 14 game against the Houston Astros, Reggie hit his 5th homerun of the year off Roger Clemens.

- He recorded his first Major League hit in his first game, going 2 for 5 against the Houston Astros on April 4, 2006.
- His first home run was a mammoth 493 ft. blast on April 19, 2006 on the road off Michael Gosling of the Cincinnati Reds.
- Only July 18 2006 he scored an odd run; an inside the park home run on a bunt. He bunted fair and managed to round the bases standing up following 2 errors from the defence.
Reggie Abercrombie graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, Ga. Columbus High is the #1 high school in Georgia.
