User talk:RefBot

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Discussion about, or requests for tasks for, RefBot should take place in User talk:SEWilco.
This user account is a bot operated by SEWilco (talk).

It is not a sock puppet, but rather an automated or semi-automated account for making repetitive edits that would be extremely tedious to do manually.
Administrators: if this bot is malfunctioning or causing harm, please block it.

[edit] Unblock tag

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | unblock | contribs) asked to be unblocked, but an administrator or other user has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators or users can also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). This unblock request continues to be visible. Do not replace this message with another unblock request nor add another unblock request.

Request reason: "User was blocked for false and imaginary reason."

Decline reason: "Per ArbCom rulings at Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration/Climate_change_dispute_2#SEWilco.27s_conversion_of_citations--WinHunter (talk) 06:47, 20 December 2006 (UTC)"

This template should be removed when the block has expired, or after 2 days in the case of blocks of 1 week or longer.
RefBot was not blocked due to conversion. [1] See block log. RefBot was blocked arbitrarily with incorrect and imaginary "evade" reason. (SEWilco 16:34, 20 December 2006 (UTC))

Not relevant to the block review. Block was created for different false reasons, under different Bot policy. Current policy does not forbid "Bot" in a name, nor does removal of a block require the bot or username be used. Review the existing block. (SEWilco 16:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC))

The review determines if the user should still be blocked. The name is incompatible with WP:USERNAME, so the user should stay blocked. Thus it is relevant to the block. Current policy does forbid "Bot" in a name, unless you are an approved bot. Hope this clears things up. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 16:34, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
If you are seeking approval for the bot, you can do so with your account(assuming this is your bot). Once approved the block can be lifted. No need to edit with a bot account until approved anyways. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 16:35, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
The name is compatible with WP:USERNAME if it has approval. Approval was not needed when the current block was created, and approval will be sought after the bot needs the permission. The current block is not connected to bot nor name issues. The current block is for false reasons; review the current block as requested. (SEWilco 17:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Automated message to bot owners

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 04:48, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
