Template talk:Ref Jane's
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Using this template
You can use this template with no parameters, and it will output the following basic book citation:
Jane, Fred T. Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of World War II. London: Studio, 1946. ISBN 1 85170 493 0.
Optional parameters are available, describing specific entry and page number. These have been added in support of more robust citation.
for example,
{{Ref Jane's|The Hawker Hurricane|128-129}}
produces: Jane, Fred T. “The Hawker Hurricane.” Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of World War II. London: Studio, 1946. p. 128-129. ISBN 1 85170 493 0.
while
{{Ref Jane's|The Hawker Hurricane}}
results in: Jane, Fred T. “The Hawker Hurricane.” Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of World War II. London: Studio, 1946. ISBN 1 85170 493 0.
- please note that only including a page number won't really work properly.
[edit] Books other than Fighting Aircraft of WWII
Additional Jane's references may be added to the template and selected with the use of a third parameter.
for example,
{{Ref Jane's | The Example Aircraft | 111 | wwi }}
results in: Jane, Fred T., John William Ransom Taylor. “The Example Aircraft.” Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of World War I. London: Studio, 1919. p. 111. ISBN 1 85170 347 0.
Books currently implemented:
- Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of World War I (use
wwi
orww1
) - Jane’s Fighting Aircraft of World War II (use
wwii
orww2
) - Jane’s American Fighting Aircraft of the 20th Century (use
1991
or20th
) - Jane’s Encyclopedia of Aviation, 1993 edition (use
1993
)
[edit] Jane's
There's more than one Jane's item (consider periodicals, other reference materials from them) that could be referenced. I think the title of this template should be made more specific. —Joseph/N328KF (Talk) 13:58, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Alternately, the template could be made more generic (ie, {{Ref Jane's|fighting|The Hawker Hurricane|128-129}} rather than the current) to allow the use of any jane's publication by simply adding more options to a #switch field. AWB could run through the existing uses and convert them. ericg ✈ 20:22, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
