[edit] Kilimanjaro
Interested in climbing kili? Be sure to get a good guide. I climbed it in 1999 and had some trouble with a guide who didn't know the way (You need a guide by law to climb kili) I wrote up my story of it if youre interested: Kili Climbing Story Seabhcan 15:33, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Hi. Interesting story of your climb. Sounds to me like that might have been the first time, not the 10th time for your "guide". We are considering the Machame or Rongai routes, the Marangu (Coca-cola route) was discarded a while back by us. I've done a lot of scrambling in my days and a bit of glacier travel. I'd give more consideration to some of the more demanding routes but the other person is not quite up to that. You sure didn't leave much time for acclimatization. I spent two nights in a tent at nearly 5100m in Nepal and while not easy I was comfortable after being above 4,000m for 9 days. RedWolf 04:10, Apr 24, 2004 (UTC)

- Ya. The guide was a bit of a chancer allright. There is a problem with kili guides in that most of the best known guide companies are based in kenya but Tanzanian law forbids kenyans from guiding on Kili. The kenyan companies will find you a tanzanian guide, but you really have to trust them to trust him. Tanzanians can guide on mount kenya, however. The Machame and Rongai routes aren't (If I'm remembering right - its been a number of years) much more than tough hikes, and I didn't have experience of anything more technical at the time. Also, 5100m in Nepal is far more difficult than the same height at the equator. Its to do with the Coriolis effect - the atmosphere is thicker at the equator and so the percentage of oxygen at a particular height is more. Good luck with your trip - and dont eat the salad! Seabhcan 15:49, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Greetings! Saw your Kilimanjaro post on the user page. I was just wondering if you've made any plant to this end, and had any ideas on the timeframe and such for the climb? I'm most definitely interested, sounds like it would be fun. Metlin 12:22, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Hi. I would be looking either at the late January - February or late August - September timeframe for any attempt on Kili. I would do Mt. Kenya first for acclimitization although there's an alternate in Tanzania. RedWolf 05:13, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)
Ahhh, I climbed the cola route in '98 and have been longing to go back. I would love to try Rongai. Next summer might be possible. +sj + 10:54, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. – Ram-Man (comment) (talk)[[]] 23:43, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Peacockthrone small.jpg
You had written:
Thanks for uploading Image:Peacockthrone small.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Until a more informative tag is provided, it will be listed as no source or no license. Could you add a better tag to let us know its source and/or copyright status? If you made the image yourself, an easy way to deal with this is add GFDL if you're willing to release it under the GFDL. Alternatively, you could release all rights to it by adding NoRightsReserved. This would allow anyone to do whatever they wish with your image, without exceptions. However, if it isn't your own image, you need to specify what free license it was distributed under. You can find a list of the tags here. If it was not distributed under a free license, but you claim fair use, add fairuse but you need to substantiate your claim by explaining why you think it's fair use. If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images by posting to my talk page. If you do this, I can tag them for you. Thanks. --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by RedWolf (talk • contribs).
I must mention that this image
- is a modern painting. It is not historical.
- the throne is not the peacock-throne (takht-e-taus) of Shah Jahan. Historical paintings of takht-e-taus with Shaha Jahan exist.
- Person sitting on it does not resemble Shah Jahan.
I suggest that this image be deleted.
For the real peacock throne See: http://www.imagesonline.bl.uk/britishlibrary/controller/subjectidsearch?id=11092&&idx=1&startid=31593

An image you uploaded, Image:Alpamayo.jpg, has just become a Featured Picture! Congratulations, and thank you for uploading it. Raven4x4x 07:04, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can you identify these peaks?
Please take a look at these unidentified peaks at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Unidentified_Karakoram_peaks. If you recognize any of these, please update their description and category and notify me. Thanks! Waqas.usman 23:18, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- Took a look but I cannot help with identication of these peaks. Never been to the region so pretty difficult for me to hazard any educatad guess. RedWolf 05:40, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Template:Mtnbox start
So I just finished converting the articles that used the deprecated Template:Mtnbox start. I found out that you are the "admin superior" for the WikiProject Mountains. I was thinking it might be a good idea to fix it so no one is likely to use it if that is possible (deleted it?). It still appears on some user pages and some Wikipedia: type pages. I did not think I should take the liberty to edit user pages and I don't see how I can edit the Wikipedia: type pages without altering the meaning of the discussion. --Droll 08:02, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- Great job on basically completing the conversion of that template. I'll take a look at the pages you are referring to in the next day or two. It's only the pages that actually transclude the template rather than simply referring to it that would need to be dealt with, likely converting them to the Infobox Mountain template. RedWolf 06:44, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the information
RedWolf, Thanks for the tips regarding the Mount Rae page and wikipedia useage in general. I've attempted to follow your suggestion regarding uploading photos to the commons. I uploaded one Arethusa-Storm-Mist-Highwood-aerial.JPG. Was it done correctly? I also used that photo in a new entry Mount_Arethusa. I thought the Mountains_of_Alberta lacked an entry for Mt. Arethusa but it seems to be there now. Did you created it or was that somehow automatic? Does the Mt. Arethusa page have correct formatting and such? Also I disagree with your statement in the Mt Rae page that the col is connected to Mt. Arethusa. I believe the peaks on both sides of the col are part of Mt Rae and the other ridge connects to Mt Arethusa. Have a look at the photo I uploaded as reference. I have aerial photos of lots of the mountains in K-country and the Bow valley. If you think they would be of any value I'll upload and create an entry for each or edit the existing entries to include one for any mountian I have. I can also take requests for aerial photos of mountains in range of my plane... Thanks again for the help. Kevin lenz 23:25, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Mount Arethusa did not have an article until you created it. The photo you uploaded to Commons looks good although you might want to consider using the Information template to standardize the layout of the image description page but that is not required. Thanks for pointing out the erroneous statement concerning the col. I scrambled Mount Rae many years ago and went strictly from memory when trying to remember where Arethesa was. For some reason I thought that col connected to Arethusa. I double checked with a topo map and agree with your correction. I re-worded the paragraph to remove the error. BTW, you have some very nice aerial photos. RedWolf 17:59, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Disambiguation Talk Request
This is a form message being sent to all WikiProject Disambiguation participants. I recently left a proposed banner idea on the WikiProject Disambiguation talk page and I would appreciate any input you could provide. Before it can be approved or denied, I would prefer a lot of feedback from multiple participants in the project. So if you have the time please join in the discussion to help improve the WikiProject. Keep up the good work in link repair and thanks for your time. Nehrams2020 22:20, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cerro de la Silla
I hate arguing over silly things, but I'm confused as to why you keep changing the units in Cerro de la silla to British spelling. It was American English from when I started it until [here, then you changed it here, then I inadvertantly changed it back here when I was making the units match up with WP:MOS guidelines (spell it out first, then abbreviate in parentheses). Then you switched it back here and here. If you strongly feel that this should be British English for some reason, I'd be willing to concede the point, but if anything I think a mountain in a city highly influenced by the US would be done in US English. Sorry to sweat the small stuff... --Spangineerws (háblame) 23:47, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- WikiProject Mountains guidelines is to use metre for non-USA articles and the American spelling for USA articles. While the USA may have a certain amount of influence on Mexico, it's still not the USA. metre is the international spelling and not a British vs American spelling issue in this context (at least as far as I'm concerned). I'm only trying to provide this consistency between mountain based articles. RedWolf 03:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Peacockthrone small.jpg
I just made the assumption that the image was created during the lifetime of Shah Jahan (January 5, 1592 – January 22, 1666), which would qualify it for the tag. Could be wrong. The image looks to be an orphan currently so you may as well delete it. -Regards Nv8200p talk 23:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] West Ice Shelf 'feature'
While I suppose it would be difficult to go back and find your original sources, at least you'd have a better idea what "the rest of the story" is. I'm quite defeated trying to think what the phrase might have been meant to say. :-)
- ... ; on February 22, 1902, the ship feature.
Shenme 18:29, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- It was copied from USGS GNIS — I have added a reference. Looks like someone didn't proofread the text when it was added to GNIS. I found a second source and re-phrased that fragment. RedWolf 23:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:X3DFritz Kasparov G2 final.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:X3DFritz Kasparov G2 final.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. This is an automated message from BJBot 17:21, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, the image can now be deleted. A freely available alternate is now being used in its place. RedWolf 17:50, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Steens

[edit] Beartooth Mountains
I may have messed up the image spacing on the article...my browser setting is low, so I oftentimes get a lot of spacing issues in articles with images. Feel free, of course, to readjust if you are getting too much crowding.--MONGO 08:02, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A task for your bot.
I recently closed the CfD for Category:Cause of death missing with a consensus to delete the category. However, there are about 1100 or so articles in that cat, way too many to tackle by hand. Could CanisRufus handle that task so i can delete the cat? If not, can you recommend a better-suited bot? Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 12:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. I'll run CanisRufus to take care of that. RedWolf 15:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

- While you have prevented me from racking up some massif edit stats, your bot will undoubtedly save me from painful repetitive stress issues. If I can ever do anything for you (help on a task, review an article or two, etc) do not hesitate to ask. Cheers. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 17:53, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Image:Diran P8050944.jpg
From User_talk:Waqas.usman#Image:Diran_P8050944.jpg Hi. Thanks for uploading Image:Diran P8050944.jpg. Since you released it under a PD license I have copied it to Commons → commons:Image:Diran P8050944.jpg. If you could provide a source date for the image there, that would be appreciated. Thanks. RedWolf 20:36, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't login in months, I don't remember if I put the date or someone else took it from the exif, but it's there now :) User:Waqas.usman (Talk) 11:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

- Okay, no problem. Thanks for adding the date. RedWolf 06:30, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:SSEichmann.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:SSEichmann.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self-no-disclaimers tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:13, 6 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yonatan talk 02:13, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Anger at Category:Fullmetal Alchemist cast members
I'm really really angry that your bot would delete a cast member category and then not even bother to listify it. I personally am also angry your deleting these categories because it makes it difficult to keep track. Really not happy with this.--Jack Cox 05:17, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
