[edit] Essays & such

I'd like to humbly suggest that you expand your essays. Also while I once was a Teenage Wikipedian, as of March of this year I was no longer one no longer, so you may want to reword my influence from a historic POV. One more thing you may be interested in the CFD debate over Category: Millenial Wikipedians. Some of the sentiement you discuss in you essay can be infered from some of the debate. I'm currently supporting merging Millennial Wikipedians (the original cat I created) and Gen Y Wikipedians into Millennial Generation Wikipedians. Millennials are one of the names, appllied to the Generation born primarily in 80s and 90s (some defs may delete the late 90s and add the late 70s). -JCarriker 22:17, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

I never saw why anyone would want to delete millenial wikipedians... I also changed other teenagers include.... to other teenagers include(d). And Jay aren't you 18? You're not a minor, but still a teenager. Or are you actually 20? Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 22:25, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
  • I'm seven months too old to be a teenager (I wish I were 18 again), so for most of my wikicareer I was a teen, and I still hold strong anti-Ageist views. You can find the CFD vote, here. Also do you think that you could spam Espaeranza about its sister project Wikipediaology? Thanks. -JCarriker 22:58, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
I can do you one better, I can get it in the signpost... well not quite yet... I'll spam as soon as I'm done with the AfD backlogs. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 23:02, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] welcome

Actually I got welcomed when I arrived months ago, but it disappeared. But thanks anyway. And good luck in the arbcom election. Chick Bowen 23:07, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 152.163.100.198.

I need this AOL IP number unblocked and fast 152.163.100.198. I cant edit pages that are not Wikipedia or User Space pages. Could you do me that favor. Thanks --JAranda | watz sup 23:18, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

152.163.100.198 is not blocked. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 23:20, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

It says that it been blocked for the pass half-an-hour. And it doesn't say who blocked it nither. I dont what is happening ??????????????????????????? --JAranda | watz sup 23:23, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

  • I d/c myself and got a new set of IP numbers but could you look into why 152.163.100.198 is mysteriously blocked as a open proxy by a unknown user. Thanks --JAranda | watz sup 23:38, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

It won't show up in IP Block list unless its still blocked, see block log for that entry. However at the time of the request it wasn't blocked. Which is odd. Who?¿? 00:55, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Hello, I just thought I'd drop by a message that maybe you should put some kind of warning besides the "WoW" link. While it could have been worse, I still think there should be a warning like "possibly R-rated". Thank you! Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 02:40, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Another Quiestion

Property Specification Language was a page that I placed in AFD and was somehow kept by some other admin even though it looks like a consious for a delete with 4 deletes 1 Weak Keep and 1 Keep. I have my doubts for it being kept and I want to avoid conflect so what should I do. Replace it on AFD? , ask another admin to delete it or just leave it as it is. Im so confused. --JAranda | watz sup 03:36, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks but another problem I got. When I try to place that same page on AFD again it just shows the link for the original debate. So what should I do now still confused :P --JAranda | watz sup 03:47, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
    • Type {{subst:AfD}} and where it says /Property Specification Language, add (2nd nomination) to the end. Then edit the redlink :) Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 03:48, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Matt!

Thank you for your kindd words. I hope we can pu this all passt us out now I am statisfied with your explannations on the blocks and all such I unsderstand I am trying to writen good artricles now. I am learning how to fly commercially in my country and I think I can contribute one or two aviation/airplane articles a week to start out with.

I am not in the mood to write much toninght summer's starting here so though I went out last night and got way too drunk trying to meet and sedduce some women and just ended up really sick today (Flaps 40 haha) and so I did a couple lines of coke to pick me upp in the afternoon and now I just feel like all hell, I think i'm going back to bed ssoon!  :<...

I also saw where you volunteered (somewhere I cant remmember) to "mentor" me no offense but I already have a friend that watches me (Lucky6*8) and I wouldnt really feel all that comfstrable with a fefteen year old mentoring me (no offense) but since Lucky is on vacation for a while I see I would not mind your freind "Essajay" to mentor me too if you would like!!

Oh and another thinng about last night: This slut I met that was calling me here at my parents a lot it turned out that she slept with my friend who lives nearby . . . Isn't that wierd?? Good night thank you.!!!Wiki brah 04:02, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks from Dakota

Thanks for the welcome. It was helpful. I have recieved several. You are welcome on the RfC. I became aware of it using the vandal fighter, checked it out. My main interest is writing and I have a few articles on Wikipedia already. I have one in que but need help uploading images. Need to be able to correctly do that before putting it up. The images in question all over 100 years old, one from the Library of Congress and another from a prison mugshot. It was faily easy to find their copright status but need to know how to correctly place them on the page. Suppose this is a lot to ask but you need not answer until you have time. Thanks.-Dakota 16:17, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] mediator committee.

Could you post a reply [1]? Also, if there is some sort of formal process to resolve this, that would be great. Ann keeps bringing up my NPA violations arguing apparently that past violations apparently justifies any behaviour on Ed Poor's part. I accepted Ed Poor's first 40 hour block for NPA violations without protest. I paid my dues and since that block I have never violated NPA again. But after he blocked me the first time, Ed blocked me again for "personal" comments when I was working on an RfC against SlimVirgin, Ed warned Neuroscientist for criticizing SlimVirgin, Ed attacked the RfC against SlimVirgin, and then Ed attacked me personally. Ann can argue whether or not a 40 hour block was enough for my NPA violations, but that is separate from Ed Poor's behaviour as mediator, separate from whether Ed Poor engaged in the debate he was supposed to be mediating, handed out an undeserved block, and attacked me. FuelWagon 17:37, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

There are at least four things that relate directly to Ed Poor's behaviour while he was mediating Terri Schiaov. (1) Ed Poor's second block against me while I was creating an RfC against SlimVirgin. He says there were NPA violations, but has refused to point out anything specific. He moved everythign to a /block directory. (2) Ed Poor's warning to Neuroscientist for possibly violating NPA when Neuroscientist had criticized the content of SlimVirgin's edit. (3) Ed Poor's attack of the RfC against SlimVirgin (4) Ed Poor's personal attack against me. All this occurred while Ed Poor was mediation Terri Schiavo. All of this occurred on the Terri Schiaov page or related pages.
Ann is basically arguing that if I bring these issues up against Ed, she'll try to bring up my past offences that she wasn't even involved with and no admin found cause to block me for. Can you comment on the request to look at Ed Poor's behaviour as mediator on the Terri Schiavo article? This is separate from Ann's attempt to threaten me into silence using unrelated issues. Ed's block against me had nothing to do with any past NPA violations and had everything to do with the fact that I was working on an RfC against his friend.
So, if a mediator doesn't mediate, can the mediation committee address it somehow? FuelWagon 22:31, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
Address it somehow? You're complaining a lot, but without suggesting a way to fix anything. Would you like me to stamp a warning on Ed's face? As far as I know, injunctions in mediation cases only apply to those in the mediation. SlimVirgin wasn't in it, she didn't know about it, the RfC was frivolous, there's no excuse for attacking her, if you were attacked back then file an RfC. Ed Poor attacking an RfC as frivolous is fine by me, as I call a lot of RfC's frivolous. Ed has been on the medcom since it first came about and I've only seen him mess up on one or two mediations. Also, you say when he blocked you he had no evidence. At the same time, you're not giving evidence on how he screwed up. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 22:39, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
"Address it somehow? You're complaining a lot, but without suggesting a way to fix anything. Would you like me to stamp a warning on Ed's face? As far as I know, injunctions in mediation cases only apply to those in the mediation. SlimVirgin wasn't in it, she didn't know about it,"
She didn't know the article was in mediation?
"the RfC was frivolous, there's no excuse for attacking her, if you were attacked back then file an RfC. Ed Poor attacking an RfC as frivolous is fine by me, as I call a lot of RfC's frivolous. Ed has been on the medcom since it first came about and I've only seen him mess up on one or two mediations."
An interesting argument, considering that below you say I'm not giving evidence, so I'm not sure what you're basing your judgment off of if you have no evidence to look at.
"Also, you say when he blocked you he had no evidence. At the same time, you're not giving evidence on how he screwed up."
Ah, well, I've posted this elsewhere, but will post it again for your convenience:

User Neuroscientist posts a 5,000 word criticism of the content of SlimVirgin's edit, including numerous factual and NPOV problems. It gets into a lot of technical and neurological detail. [2]. Ed Poor responds to Neuroscientist by warning him not to violate NPA [3].

I start working on an RfC against SlimVirgin on my talk page. SlimVirgin complains. Ed asks her if there's any specific talk page he should look at [4]. Two hours later [5], Ed moves all the edits on my talk page that are critical of SlimVirgin to a /block subdirectory and blocks me because "you have not said anything about how you intend to help this project." [6] He quickly realized that was a silly excuse for blocking someone and then adds one minute later that I was making "personal remarks" [7]. The entire /block directory can be read here. If you can find a violation of NPA, please let me know.

I asked Ed to "point out what exactly on my talk-page was "hurtful" that got me completely locked (I was doing my best to write my objections to SlimVirgin's edit without any mention of personal character)" [8]. Ed avoided answering teh question, responding "If you want to dig into whether I've "followed the rules", if you're more interested in that than in making a good article, go ahead and RFC/RFA/RFdeadmin me or whatever. We can have a mud-wrestling contest, but neither or us will enjoy it much and we'll both get filthy." [9]. This to me basically says that there were no NPA violations on my talk page that he moved to teh /block directory, and that he did it solely because I was working on the RfC against SlimVirgin, and SlimVirgin was a personal friend.

Once I file teh RfC against SlimVirgin, Ed gave it hesitant and partial endorsement saying " Basically, Slim moved too far, too fast at Terry Schiavo." [10]. So, I don't think it was a completely frivolous RfC. But then Mel Etitis opposed the RfC saying "Ed Poor has shown poor judgement in endorsing this, in my opinion. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:04, 15 July 2005 (UTC)" to which Ed Poor responded "I have withdrawn my endorsement - which was only partial and tentative. Uncle Ed 20:40, July 15, 2005 (UTC)" [11]. Ed then goes on the RfC talk page and attacks it and anyone supporting it as "building a case", gaming the system in a hypocritical bullying way, and "spurious". [12]

I withdraw my certification and the RfC is deleted. Ed then gives me a lesson in free speech:

You're entitled to form whatever opinion you want, but not always to express it. There is no freedom of speech at Wikipedia in the same sense as America's First Amendment. I happen to think you're an asshole and a shit head, and that you're fucking everything up, you stupd, time-wasting bully!!! (This is inserted as an example of a forbidden comment, go ahead and complain about me if you want, but I was illustrating a point. [13]

So, basically, I have 4 points of issue regarding Ed Poor's behaviour while mediating the Terri Schiavo article. (1) there are no NPA violations in my /block directory and his second block against me was underserved and simply an attempt to stop the RfC against SlimVirgin (2) Ed warns Neuroscientist for violating NPA when all Neuroscientist did was critique SlimVirgin's edit (3) Ed Poor engaged in teh debate on the RfC against SlimVirgin and attacked it and the people who filed it as building a case, gaming the system, bullying, and spurious (4) Ed Poor then attacked me under the justification of teaching me a lesson about free speech.

If you need more evidence, let me know. FuelWagon 05:56, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] GoofyJimbo2

I really don't think you should block every username containing "Jimbo" (people besides JW call themselves that, y'know :-P), and that this user is much more likely to be repulsed and lose interest in contributing to WP than email you (especially as you didn't actually indicate how to email you). I won't reverse it myself but suggest you do so. ~~ N (t/c) 23:24, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

It was at Cool_Cat's suggestion that I do so, I knew that chances are it wasn't likely to be used for vandalism, but there's an offchance. I unblocked him on the autoblocker, and if he was autoblocked he must still be interested in editing the wiki. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 23:27, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
We often block any name with the word wheels in it, for... you know why. We tell the users to just get a new account, as I'm sure some of the wheels accounts were willy-free. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 23:29, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
Sure, the autoblocker means he was interested for a while, but maybe he isn't anymore. I'm pretty sure the majority of contributors would leave in disgust - I would if being blocked were my first experience. I'm going to unblock and email him as a result, because I think letting a vandal briefly run wild and get reverted is better than losing a good contributor. ~~ N (t/c) 00:23, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Oops, didn't see he'd emailed you. I still think that cases where the user does respond are the exception. BTW, I loved the essay. ~~ N (t/c) 00:25, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
He emailed me a while ago, and didn't seem angry at all. I unblocked him as thus. But what if we let every wheely stick around, and they all turned out to be Willy? Remember the work we clean up for every Willy? Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 00:26, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Well, my comment needs clarification. Something like "Pilly on Pills" or "Willy Wheelpecker" is so unlikely to bee non-Willy that it can be banned. Something like "Willy Joe" or "WheelsMan" isn't, and probably shouldn't be blocked. If Willy moves on to non-obvious names (which he so far hasn't, apparently), then maybe we'd have to get less tolerant, but only then. ~~ N (t/c) 00:38, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RfB - reply

When I saw you opposed my RfB, I remembered there was a dispute I had with you. I found it now:

EXTREME DELETE, burn the author of the page. Regionalistic hatred that we shouldn't be giving attention to. I live in a blue state and I'm apolitical, but the writer of this page is a true dick. Why keep it? Because it has wikilinks? (Oh and for a side note, I favor keeping the GNAA, but this page really needs to die.) Let's make an article for Joe Blow's webblog citing why he hates Massachusetts. Yayyyz! --Redwolf24 (talk) 04:53, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Redwolf24, is there anything you want to say to me directly? Taco Deposit | Talk-o to Taco 05:02, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

When I said burn the author, I didn't mean of the article (i.e. you) I mean whoever wrote www.fuckthesouth.org. I wasn't calling you a dick, I was referring to the site owner. And when I said 'wikilinks' I was referring to how the page links to stuff at Wikipedia. So I apologize for that misunderstanding about a month back. Cheers. [edit] User talk:172.154.104.20

Hi, you protected this page and claimed that the IP was not an AOL proxy. I can neither prove nor disprove what you have said, but you apparently left the user page unprotected so that User:172.145.249.120 could place the {{AOL}} template there.

Bleh, it turned out it was AOL, but it was strange only one person had used it at that point. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 02:39, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] re mediation and Whitfield Larrabee

Can a single user ask for an RfC on a user's behavior? He's already reverted several times, so I don't feel I can be the one to go in and clean up the personal attacks in the main tort reform article. I don't know the best way to deal with what seems to me to be clearly out-of-bounds behavior. I presume administrators have access to IP information to quickly determine sock puppet usage. FRCP11 03:51, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

No, we don't. I got a sockpuppet check done recently with the help of a developer, but I had a lot of evidence. Only developers and DavidGerard can sock check. I guess mediation may work, leave a note on User talk:Sasquatch as he should continue with the case I believe. Redwolf24 (talk—How's my driving?) 03:54, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User:Blueballs

Thought you'd get a kick out of that, I was wondering why you'd nominate someone for adminship who made their account only a few hours earlier. Karmafist 05:29, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Toothpaste nom

I noticed on the bottom of your user page that you intend on nominating User:Toothpaste near the end of this month. If I might suggest, this may be premature. First, her average # of edits has been steadily declining now for about 7 weeks. This is a bit worrisome; how dedicated is she to the project? Second, her use of edit summaries is low at 33% overall, 40.6% over the last 500 edits. Third, as I think you know now, having less than 2,000 edits can be a kiss of death for RfAs as <50% of them succeed below 2000 edits. Based on her average number of edits per day over the last 30 days, she'll hit 2,000 edits sometime in March of 2006. I'm NOT saying do not nominate her; just be very, very careful about the nom and make sure there is no reason to otherwise oppose her. Nickbush24's nom fell apart due to civility issues. Don't let that happen to Toothpaste. All the best, --Durin 20:35, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

  • User:Redwolf24/Sandbox doesn't do anything to address my primary concerns; less than 2,000 edits, less than 50% use of edit summaries, and declining participation over the last 7 weeks. Yes, I know about NicholasTurnbull's RfA. In comparison, his use of edit summaries is 96% (Toothpaste is 33% overall), and leading into his RfA his participation was increasing rather than decreasing. If her edits have been decreasing due to efforts on other language Wikipedias, then I'd cite her contributions on those wikipedias so people can see them as well. Also, NicholasTurnbull's distribution of edits over namespaces is stronger than Toothpaste's distribution. As I noted, I am not saying do not nominate her. I am suggesting you be very careful about the nomination; make a thorough check of all user talk interactions, see where she is participating across admin appropriate work areas and note them in the RfA nom, etc. One suggestion; in your tentative nom statement, you say "Just having Featured Articles isn't quite enough to be an admin though" then follow it with just one more sentence. If you're going to include a line like that, especially after so much discussion of FAC issues in the nom, then I suggest adding in substantial material regarding her work in other areas. For example, 14 edits in Wikipedia:Peer review, 21 in Wikipedia:Science collaboration of the week, 28 in WP:AFD, and 34 reverts. Personally, I wouldn't include that quote at all. While participation on IRC is admirable, not everybody participates there (for example, me) and there's no record of her work there; people have no way of evaluating it.
