Redrum

Redrum is the word murder spelled backwards. It was used in The Shining by Stephen King and in both the film The Shining and the miniseries The Shining based on the book.

- Stephen King also uses redrum in other books and movies such as in Desperation where on the wall REDRUM DOG (God Murder) appears.
- Redrum (pronunciation: "ree-druhm") is the name of the virtual hardware drum machine found in Reason, a virtual music studio program for PC and MAC. (Perhaps as a double reference as "Re-Drum" to ReBirth RB-338.)
- The scene from The Shining where Wendy looks at Danny's writing of "REDRUM" in the mirror as "MURDER" can be briefly seen in the drive-in scene in Twister (1996).

- In the Kindaichi Case Files, the mastermind in the episode "Mystery at the Wax Museum" called himself Redrum.
- Redrum is a monster in the Square RPG, Xenogears. At that point in the game, the monster is blamed for many murders happening in the sewers.
- The word redrum is extensively used in the music of rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. One instance is in the song Ready 4 War, from the album The Art of War, where Layzie Bone chants: "My nigga now Majesty, these niggas is after me, murder redrum redrum redrum...."
