Redline is a computer game for Mac OS X developed by Jonas Echterhoff and published by Ambrosia Software.

An advanced 3D gaming engine is used in Redline, showing realistic visual effects such as tire skid marks, exhaust, and weather and other environmental effects. Cars handle very realistically, as the game keeps track of the weight distribution of the car for each individual wheel. Redline is also designed to be very playable with a keyboard, although for more realistic and flexible control racing wheels and other gamepads are supported.

Redline has four game modes:

  • Time Trial, where the player races alone on a track. The racer's time is submited to a high score server, and if it is one of the top thirty for that car and track, the time will be listed on the hall of fame.
  • Quick Race, a race against one to eleven AI racers.
  • Challenge, twelve racing and maneuvering timed challenges. As the player finishes these challenges, new cars are unlocked for racing in other game modes. Players are awarded medals based on how fast they complete the challenges. Also, much like Time Trial, the player's time is submitted to a high score server and may be listed in the hall of fame if the time is one of the top thirty.
  • Multiplayer, racing over the Internet with other players. Up to 12 people may play in each game.

Many players have come up with playing Redline in new and unique ways, some of the more popular player-invented multi-player games modes:

  • Smugglers, Two teams race with a Mini and multiple Vettes per team, to try and stop the opposing team Mini from winning the race. This Multiplayer game mode is the most popular game off-shoot of Redline.
  • Tag, A chosen player drives backwards around the track to try and tag another player head-on.
  • Relay, 2 person teams race around the track in a relay fashion.
  • Bad Love, Two teams of Vettes, one red and one blue, race. The objective of the game is to have no one on your team come in last. Coming in first means nothing. Many people misunderstand the strategy involved, often treating it as a demolition derby. The skill lies in knowing when you should race and when you should help your teammates. It is becoming a close second to Smugglers for the most popular game besidess racing. A three team version is possible with the winner being the first team to have all vettes finished. A rogue vette may be used if there are an odd number of players, it should attack any member of the leading team (i.e. the team that would win if the race continued as it is). This game is rumored to have been created by players Charlie T. Brown and G5, but it was not RichardBacon who brought order and clarity to the rules, but The Eel.
  • Demolition, where the host must alter his or her preferences file so it creates a special mode in which players cars give and receive damage from walls, obstacles and other cars. The goal of the game is to be the only player that has not become "wrecked", when the hood starts smoking because the car has received to much damage. After all, or all but one player has been wrecked, all of the cars reset as if they had been flipped over. There is no lap count and the game only lasts until the host stops it or everyone else quits.

  • Simulation, this is based on real life characteristics of the car such as handling and acceleration. Cars handle differently because of their drivetrain, weight distribution, horsepower and numerous other variables.
  • Arcade, this mode is based on easy handling and the only thing that differs between cars is the acceleration and top speeds.
  • Turbo, arcade mode on steroids.
  • Strict, this mode is Simulation with some new features to ensure clean racing such as, crashing into walls, A.K.A, wallriding results in 100 percent deceleration.
