Redfield College is an independent school run by the PARED (Parents for Education) Association and based in Dural, New South Wales Australia.

The school is inspired and is closely associated to the spiritual teachings of Josemaría Escrivá, the Founder of Opus Dei. Unlike other schools outside Australia and despite popular myths in Sydney, Redfield is not run by Opus Dei and has no formal affiliation with the Catholic prelature. However, at the request of PARED, the spiritual and religious education has been entrusted to Opus Dei.

[edit] History

Founded by the PARED foundation in 1986, Redfield was first established at Wahroonga at the current site of Retaval Wahroonga. In 1991, the college relocated to Dural NSW and was officially opened by the then-State opposition leader The Hon. Bob Carr.

In 2000, the College started the construction of a new primary building which was opened in 2001. The school also went under a renovation in 2005 to the Primary Building located on the East side of the school. The extension includes new classrooms and change rooms.

[edit] Academic Performance

Academically, the college and its sister school, Tangara School for Girls, performs magnificently. In the 2006 High School Certificate, The median performance in the class was an 85+ UAI, a reflection of the general standard of application of this group of students who were not selected academically for entry into the school. Results for all Redfield subjects are once again over State averages. English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry were particularly strong subjects against State figures. Chemistry and Standard English were more than ten marks above State average on a bell distribution. In fact, all Redfield students were awarded an English mark above the average mark in the State in the English courses they attempted.
