Red reflex
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The red reflex refers to the reddish-orange reflection from the eye's retina that is observed when using an ophthalmoscope or retinoscope. Leukocoria, or white coloration of the eye, is a diseased state that can be caused by one of many factors, including cataracts. The eyes of newborns are checked for leukocoria to screen for retinoblastomas.
According to Bates Guide to Physical Exams, retinal detachment and vitreous would cause the patient to not have a red reflex.
