[edit] History

The college was established in 1969 as a campus of the Community College of Denver and opened at a temporary site until the Colorado legislature appropriated funds for construction of a permanent campus at the school's present Lakewood campus. Construction began in 1971 and the first phase of construction was completed in 1973, with a link between the east and west wings of the current building completed in fall 1975.

On July 1, 1983 the Red Rocks campus officially became Red Rocks Community College and it opened its second campus in Arvada in 1990.

[edit] Campus Life

Red Rocks Community College’s GLBT (Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender) Resource Center opened its doors to the campus and surrounding community on September 19, 2006. The GLBT Resource Center was developed by RRCC’s Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) with funding from the college administration and student government. It is staffed by student and employee volunteers. Many students, staff, and faculty have participated in discussion groups and events in the Center and used the resources offered by the Center. RRCC's GLBT Resource Center provides support to all Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender students. Additionally, the Resource Center aims to serve the needs of all RRCC faculty, staff, family, friends, and community seeking a better understanding of GLBT issues. Essentially, the Center is for everyone.
