"Red Hill Mining Town" is the sixth track from U2's 1987 album, The Joshua Tree.
The song was initially intended as the third single from the Joshua Tree album. However, the band later realized they would be unable to play it live every night (since the notes were too high for Bono).[citation needed] "Where the Streets Have No Name" was released instead. This song is the only number from the album never played live. The music video for the song, directed by Neil Jordan, was never released.[citation needed]
Bono has said that the song is about the 1984 UK mining strike and its strain on relationships at the time.[citation needed]
"Red Hill Mining Town" has been covered by Dream Theater.[citation needed]
