[edit] Discovery

The band is very well known in the local areas of metropolitan Melbourne and can be seen on front lawns throughout the city. They were discovered by Artbeat Music in July 2006.

[edit] Formation, break-up and re-formation

The band has said in many interviews with music magazines and local TV stations that "we have not always been the happy-go-lucky band which you typically see in today's mainstream, we have arguments, we fight and we don't always get along, personal issues affect us as a group but in the end we come out stronger then before and we always stay true to the music" - Rock Beat Music Magazine (quoted member unknown).

The band formed in early 2005 when the members were still young. The original members, James, Luke and Pat held auditions for new members and hired the help of Scott and John. The early beginnings of the band were as normal as any other and soon began playing in extremely large venues (front lawns) mainly playing cover tracks from bands such as U2 and Green Day.

By mid 2006 the band began to have issues with some members, disputes amongst the group caused divisions and musical influence and direction affected the bands ability to create the music that they wanted. In October 2006 the band split up and individual members joined other bands but were not successful in these bands.

In November 2006, James Klaic realised that the band needed to be reunited, after several members had been in failed bands and were going no where they were contacted by James to come back together and have one more shot at it. Scott and Luke joined the band straight away but John and Pat were hesitant to re-join the band. After several conversations both members rejoined the band.

There had now been several fallings out and 2 members had been sacked- Patrick Kiehne and Luke Hurst. Now the members are- James Klaic, John Luc, Scott Joustra and Emmanuel Cuschieri. In an interview with Alternative Music Magazine Klaic stated that "I could not find what I wanted in any other band, REF has something that no other band I have been in has, I don't know what it is but this band keeps drawing me in. After we broke up I tried several different bands including Suicidal Hitmen which failed for many reasons, soon after that failed I realised that REF was the band in which I could be truly happy in, it was the band where we could write the music we wanted and we made it work, even though our styles vary greatly from member to member we essentially come together to make a sound which is innovative and pushes the boundaries of modern music, we continue to surprise ourselves with our different styles and the music which comes out of us and we get that reaction from the crowd which is unexplainable..we play our music to them and they soak it up, the Red Eye Fridays has something which I just cant be in a band without".

The band began to write some original songs such as "Minus the Fat", "Murders Unfold" and "Rochin' Roll". They began to play these songs at live performances in clubs in Melbourne and were spotted by CEO's from Artbeat Music and signed a record deal with them.

The band anticipate the release of their first album in early 2007 and a DVD titled "Red Eye Fridays: A Bloodshot Experience" which is a compilation of some of their own songs being played at two arenas. The release date for the DVD may not be until mid or late 2007.

[edit] Influences

The band has mixed influences and each member is different. Their influences range from the 1970's punk band The Sex Pistols to 00's band my chemical romance , from rock band AC/DC to grunge band nirvana . The influences of the red eye Fridays differ greatly from member to member but mainly consist of rock bands and alternative rock bands.

[edit] Name origination

The name Red Eye Fridays originates from the energy drink Red Eye which is very popular in Australia and is commonly drunk by members. The full name Red Eye Fridays originates from a weekly ritual where the band members would buy Red Eyes every Friday as a group with other friends.
