An American cultivar raised by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) as selection 916, the tree was derived from a crossing of Siberian Elm U. pumila with Japanese Elm U. davidiana var. japonica. The tree was registered in 1993 as Rebone by Conrad Appel KG, of Darmstadt, Germany, and is a sibling of New Horizon (selection 917).
