Rebel Forces (Star Wars)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the fictional Star Wars universe, the Rebel Alliance uses various infantry and special forces in its battle against the Galactic Empire. The creators of the Star Wars universe generally do not diversify rebel forces, but several books, comics, and other sources have expanded the variety of the Rebels' outnumbered array of footsoldiers.

[edit] Rebel troopers

Rebel Troopers are the common footsoldiers of the Rebel Alliance. The Rebel Trooper is normally dressed in grey pants, blue shirt, black vest, and bowl shaped helmet-with a blaster for weapon of choice. They are trained to fight in different environments, from jungles to urban warfare. The rebel soldier is at least comparable to the Stormtrooper as they fight to achieve their goals.

The uniforms for the Rebel Trooper vary with their environment. When they are in a jungle setting, they wear the Endor-uniform with green camouflage. When they are in an urban setting, they wear the same uniform with gray camouflage. When in a snowy environment like Hoth, they wear the uniform from The Empire Strikes Back.

The first time in the series an Alliance Trooper is shown in action is at the beginning of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, on board the Tantive IV. At this point however they are not yet known as the "Rebel" Troopers, as opposed to what many believe, but merely as Alderaan's Senator's, Leia Organa at the time, elite guards. Later on, Darth Vader "publicly" declares those elite guards as traitors to the Empire when he discovers the escape of the senator and the lack of "cooperation" of those soldiers to the Empire. They have, from then on, little choice but to join the Rebellion. Other Rebel Troopers can also be seen on Yavin 4, Hoth, and on the forest moon of Endor. However, those have received standard Rebel training. They generally have another outfit more appropriate to multi-environment situations and missions.

Other Rebel Troopers are more commonly known as Rebel Soldiers. They receive standard training and have better teamwork skills. They carry the BlasTech DH-17 Blaster Rifle, the DL-44 Blaster Pistol, 4 Merr-Sonn Munitions Class A Thermal Detonators and on occasion Concussion Grenades. These soldiers are the main force of the Rebel Alliance.

[edit] Rebel infiltrators

Rebel Infiltrators are special forces spies which secretly move about enemy lines and conduct espionage. They wear a special cloaking device designed to bend light rays.

[edit] Rebel pilots

Rebel pilots are normally contracted personnel or ex-Imperial pilots. Most pilots wear orange jumpsuits with a custom-decorated helmet and blast shield. Additionally, Rebel pilots use targeting computers and a diverse array of starfighters, including the X-Wing starfighter and the Y-Wing bomber.

[edit] Rebel marines

Rebel Marines are used exclusively to defend ships from enemy boarding parties or to capture enemy vessels. They wear the uniform seen in the Tantive IV skirmish. Rebel Marines are more heavily armed than the average space pilot, armed not only with a blaster rifle but a rocket launcher as well .They are good at destroying internal systems on enemy capital ships and have a distinct advantage over a normal pilot in a firefight.

[edit] Plex soldier

Plex soldiers, a variant of the traditional rebel soldier, appear in the PC game Star Wars: Empire at War. Each Plex soldier is armed with a single PLX-2M missile tube, and they are most effective against light vehicles. They have the ability to capture build pads, reinforcement points, and some structures. They work in squads of three. Plex Soldiers are able to take cover, at which point they enter a crouching position, and spread out when not under direct fire. However, plex soldiers move slower while taking cover, which must be taken into consideration when crossing long distances.

[edit] Rebel Marksmen

Rebel marksmen are the long range snipers in the Rebel Alliance. They wield the E-17d sniper rifle developed by BlasTech. They also have a DL-44 Blaster Pistol and 2 Class A Thermal Detonators. Other equipment carried by the marksmen include recon droids, auto-turrets and disguise kits.

[edit] Rebel Commandos

Highly trained troops used for sabotage, they carry blasters and thermal detonators, similar to rebel soldiers. They are skilled riding speeder bikes. They wear green tunics, tan pants, and a green cloak. They are much more powerful than even elite stormtroopers
