[edit] History

In the first Resident Evil, Rebecca is a supporting character who appears only in Chris' scenario in the game. She is one of the surviving Bravo Team members who are already in the mansion prior to Alpha Team's arrival in the game. Her introduction and other appearances throughout the game differs depending on what path the player takes in the game, but her role is essentially to assist Chris during portions which requires her assistance such as mixing chemicals or playing the piano. Depending on what path the player takes, Chris may have to save Rebecca from a Hunter during the second visit to the mansion - the player has the choice of saving Rebecca or leaving her for dead, with the latter resulting in one of the game's lesser endings.

Not much is mentioned about Rebecca's fate in the games following the original Resident Evil other than she indeed survived the so-called "Mansion Incident" however the offical site said she was active but her current locations are unknown depicted in the game, as evident in Birkin's "Mail to the Chief" letters in Resident Evil 2. A police report written by Rebecca was added to the Nintendo 64 port of the game, which serves as a foreshadowing to the then-unreleased Resident Evil Zero. At the time, Zero was under development for the N64 but later shifted to the Nintendo GameCube.

Prior to the release of Resident Evil Zero, the original Resident Evil was remade on the GameCube. Rebecca's portrayal in the game was changed considerably, resulting in her being more serious and acting less like a rookie (although her role in the game was essentially the same), to suit the darker tone of the remake as well to fit in with her characterization in Resident Evil Zero.

Rebecca serves as the main heroine in Resident Evil Zero, which depicts Bravo Team's ordeal prior to the events of the first game. In the game, she is separated from her Bravo Team comrades and teams up with an escaped convict named Billy Coen. The pair find their way into one of Umbrella's abandoned training facility, where they're confronted by the recently resurrected James Marcus and his swarm of mind-controlled leeches. After the events of the game Rebecca helps Billy fake his death by writing a police report featured in Resident Evil 2.

[edit] Wardrobe

In the original Resident Evil, Rebecca is seen wearing a S.T.A.R.S. uniform which consists of a light green mid-sleeve T-shirt with a white bulletproof vest. The medic symbol is printed on the back of her bulletproof vest. She wears olive green cargo pants with the cuffs rolled up complete with a white cargo belt and olive-green-and-white Converse-like sneaker-boots. She also wears black, fingerless gloves and a pink choker. She wore a red headband and white earrings, which have been omitted in the remake and Resident Evil 0. At the end of Resident Evil 0, She takes Billy's dogtag and lables him officially dead. However, when she returns in Resident Evil, she is no longer wearing his dogtag. One explanation for this is that it had been snatched by a zombie during an attempt to free herself from it's grip. A notable difference between the original Resident Evil and remake is her eye color. The classical Resident Evil and DS version of Rebecca had brown eyes, whereas in the remake and Resident Evil 0 Rebecca had green eyes.

In the Arranged Mode featured in Resident Evil: Director's Cut, she wore a streamlined, burgundy-colored version of her uniform, which consisted of shorts and a midriff-showing t-shirt. In Resident Evil remake, her alternate costume is a cowgirl outfit consisting of a brown cowboy vest, boots and jeans shorts. This costume was carried over to Resident Evil 0 along with another alternate costume consisting of leather pants and a halter top with long fingerless gloves. This costume also reveals that Rebecca apparently has a tattoo of a butterfly on the upper half of her left arm.

In the Rebirth Mode of Resident Evil DS, she wore a light-blue cheerleader outfit as her alternate costume.

In addition, in Resident Evil 2, when searching the S.T.A.R.S. office, checking Wesker's desk 50 times provides a photo of Rebecca wearing a basketball uniform, holding a basketball.

[edit] In other media

Rebecca has a central role in S.D. Perry's uncanonical Resident Evil novels, especially the original stories Caliban Cove and Underworld in which she teams up with members of the Exeter, Maine branch of S.T.A.R.S. In Underworld, she and the surviving S.T.A.R.S Exeter members team up with Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

[edit] Trivia

  • When Resident Evil 0 was reworked for the GameCube, Rebecca's looks and features were modelled after those of Japanese pop star Ayumi Hamasaki, who was the official spokeswoman for the game in Japan. [1]
