[edit] Career

Razzaq Farhan is an instinctive goalscorer, whose speed in thought and deed makes up for his size and power. He is one of the most prolific strikers in the Gulf, having scored nearly 100 goals in his six seasons playing abroad. He began his career in 1992-1993 with Al-Madhtiya in the Iraqi fourth division, before joining 3rd division club Al-Qasim the next season. In 1994, he signed for Babil, who at the time where playing in the Iraqi 1st division, he scored 14 goals in his first season earning a move to Baghdad giants Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya after being spotted by Jawiya coach Natiq Hashim.Razzaq spent three seasons at the ‘Falcons’, winning the Iraqi league title, Iraqi Cup, Super Cup and Umm Al-Ma’arak Cup. In 1998, he needed only a few minutes to make his mark in the Iraq, coming on as a season half substitute to give Iraq a 2-0 win over Lebanon. He turned professional the same year and moved to Bahrain Sports Club, scoring 10 goals in only seven games for the side. The next season, he joined Al-Sharjah, who had been relegated to the Emirates 2nd division. Razzaq was an inspiration to the club’s promotion to the 1st division with 42 goals in a season. However disaster stroke the striker, when he injured knee ligaments while playing for his club, keeping him out of the 2000 Asian Cup in Lebanon. He returned in 2001, scoring 18 goals to put his name alongside George Weah, Mohammed Salem Al-Enazi and Ali Karimi in the UAE goalscorers charts. The following year, Razzaq managed only 6 goals for Sharjah as the club board replaced him with Brazilian Anderson de Carr. The club went onto lift the President’s Cup without him. Razzaq re-signed for Bahrain, where he played alongside former Iraqi captain Abbas Obaid. He later joined UAE club Al-Khaleej, helping the team get promotion to the 1st division before joining up with his Iraqi team-mates Ahmed Abdul-Jabar and Haidar Mahmoud at Al-Shamal – This season he topped the goalscorers’ chart alongside Argentina Gabriel Batistuta of Al-Arabi, and recently signed a contract to play for Nadi Qatar.
