Rayna Kapec is a character in the fictional Star Trek universe. She appeared in the TOS episode "Requiem for Methuselah", and was played by Louise Sorel.
In 2269, the Enterprise visited the planet Holberg 917G looking for a cure to Rigellian Fever, a plague that infected the crew of the Enterprise. There, the Enterprise landing party discovered that Rayna Kapec (Louise Sorel) the supposed ward of a Mr. Flint was actually an android created by the immortal Flint to be his companion. The female android was designed to have the equivalent of 17 university degrees. Rayna was constructed to appear as a beautiful thirtysomething year old woman. Her one lacking attribute was her lack of emotions. Flint introduces Rayna as his ward to the Enterprise landing party. It was Flint's intention to have Rayna's emotions awaken using the charms and attraction that Captain Kirk (William Shatner) had for Rayna. Flint hadn't counted on his own jealousies from surfacing and a fight ensued with Kirk. While Rayna stopped them, the emotional distress damaged her newly formed emotional circuits which resulted in her death. While Captain Kirk was heartbroken over Rayna's death, Spock helped him forget her with a Vulcan mind-meld.
[edit] Trivia
- The name Rayna Kapec was an homage to Czechoslovakian writer Karel Čapek, who coined the term "robot" in the classic Sci-Fi play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots).
- Her name was pronounced "Rayna" in the episode, but listed as "Reena" in the ending credits.
