Raymond Patriarca, Jr.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raymond J. Patriarca, Jr. is a Providence mobster and former head of the Patriarca crime family, succeeding his father Raymond Patriarca, Sr. following his death in 1984. Although supported by the majority of the crime family in favor of Boston racketeer Genaro Angiulo, Patriarca's reign was considerably weaker compared to his fathers leadership. Within the family, Angiulo was demoted and Underboss William Grosso was later killed.

With the support of the Gambino crime family, Patriarca managed to maintain stability during the next several years when, in 1989, Patriarca was recorded by federal agents with the entire leadership of the Patriarca's holding a mafia induction ceremony of four new members, the first to have been recored by the FBI. Based largely on these tapes, federal prosecutors were able to convict Patriarca and the rest of the crime family on racketeering related charges.
