Raveni
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Raveni was the ancient city of Fanoti, part of the kingdom of Thesprotis. It lies on the foothills of the tormented mountain of Mourgana, where many battles of the civil war took place after the Second World War. The village is more or less surrounded by the snake like river of Thaymis, which forms its delta at the bay of Igoumenitsa.
The ruins of the St. Dimitrios castle tower above the houses of the village testifying the importance of the place through the ages.
Raveni is also the fatherland of the famous Stathis family (formerly known as Mouratis during the early twenties when the region changed hands from the Ottoman Empire to the newly formed Greece) which has dwelled on these grounds since the pelasgic era.
