Rasul Makasharipov was a Dagestani Islamist rebel leader. He led a pro-Chechen group Shariat Jamaat, which sought to unite Caucasian Muslims under Islamic rule, until he was killed during a shootout with the Russian troops on July 6, 2005. [1]
