Rape Trauma Syndrome
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rape Trauma Syndrome is a group of signs, symptoms and reactions of a rape victim, first described by psychiatrist Ann Wolbert Burgess and sociologist Lynda Lytle Holmstrom in 1974.
There are two main phases, the Disorganization Phase (acute) and Reorganization Phase (short-term to long-term effects).
The symptoms in the acute phase are similar to shock and in the longer term similar to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
