Rapaninae is a large subfamily within the gastropod family Muricoidea. The subfamily was known as Thaidinae until 1993.
Shells are typically nonvaricate, but strong axial sculpture may be present. One of the species, Rapana thomasiana, is included in Russia's Red Book as threatened with extinction. The original area of this species was the Far East, but in 1947 it was found in the Black Sea and its shell became a popular souvenir traded in the Crimea.
