Rantath Flux

Wormholes can produce a unique type of radioactive energy known as Rantath flux.

In the television series Farscape, Rantath flux variance is a property of unstable wormhole travel. While Rantath flux can be used to identify how unstable a wormhole can be, it can also cause a very serious side-effect: complete tissue liquification. It is very unscertain whether or not Rantath flux actually causes wormhole instability or the instability causes Rantath flux; either way, there is a direct corellation between how "bumpy" a wormhole is and the level of radiation that it emits. Although many species in the Farscape universe have fought for the same technology, only a few have ever mastered the ability to control wormholes either for weapons or for peaceful purposes like propulsion. However, consistently throughout the course of the Farscape series, stable wormhole travel always proves to be far more difficult to achieve, and even the most advanced races have trouble with stabilizing wormholes (except for some, like the Ancients).

[edit] Prevention of tissue liquification

A Prowler is ideal for wormhole travel.

A certain means of combating the problem of Rantath flux is phase-negative shield deployment, as suggested by the Peacekeeper scientist Linfer. The principle by which, a Prowler consistently adjusts its shield calibration in the phase-negative spectrum according a certain set of mathematical wormhole progressions. Given the principle of phase attenuation, this could hypothetically provide the pilot with complete protection against Rantath flux energy, by cancelling it out to begin with. However, it has been proven that phase-negative shield deployment does not work period, and simply onsets the effects of tissue liquification. A possible likelihood of such a result is broadband Rantath energy, where the flux in question has a particularly large frequency bandwidth, therefore no specific shield modulation can possibly block it.

  • Phase stabilizer

The phase stabilizer is device invented by the engineer Furlow. It could be used to influence the properties of a wormhole itsef, thus preventing the dangers of Rantath flux.

  • Phaztillon Generator

A device used by Pathfinder Neeyala, to stabilize wormholes. It works by using non-thermal dimensional forces (forces that don't include electromagnetic heat) to change the phase resolution in order to rectify the "phase presences" found unstable wormholes. The Phaztillon generator works by using a particle known as "phasic restin ions".
