Ranmoor House is a hall of residence at the University of Sheffield, UK. It is the largest hall of residence at the university, housing around 800 students, and it is also the most westerly, being furthest away from the Students' Union, the Octagon Centre and most of the university buildings, such as the Arts Tower and the Mappin Building. Ranmoor is a few minutes from Broomhill, and can be reached on Sheffield's number 60, 120 or 80 bus route.

Ranmoor, is situated west of Sheffield city centre, on Shore Lane, just off Fulwood Road (which leads towards Ranmoor, the suburb of Sheffield). Inside, it has a reception area, pub-style bar and a large sports and recreation hall. Ranmoor also has two music rooms, with a piano in one and a drum kit in the other. Ranmoor also has a number of multi-purpose rooms, with TVs, and has an IT centre with 32 PCs connected to the University network.

Ranmoor is a catered hall, offering its residents breakfast and evening dinner daily, and lunches at weekends, throughout term-time

The accommodation itself consists of small single rooms, in corridors of up to 20. However in The Annexe the corridors have at least 35 people on them. Each room has a sink, desk, bed, chair, cupboard, as well as a network point for internet access, and a phone point. Each corridor is known by the letter denoting its block, and a number indicating which floor it's on (eg. 4V). The blocks are generally grouped together for admin purposes (eg. T,U,V). There is also an annexe across the road from the main building.

It is often rumoured that the main building's design was originally intended for a Swedish women's prison. Although the same tale is told of many other halls of residence in other cities (such as one of University of Exeter Halls of Residence) and so is almost certainly an urban myth.

When originally planned, it had been intended that there would be two halls residence, one for men and the other for women, with shared communal catering and social facilities. The Latey Report 1967, (Report of the Committee on the Age of Majority) led to Ranmoor House being opened as mixed hall of residence in the Autumn Term of 1968.

Ranmoor, like other Sheffield University owned halls of residence, will unfortunately be knocked down as part of the "Student Residences Strategy"; modern student accommodation will replace the buildings on the same site and will be complete by 2008/9.
