Random Virus is a neutral character from the BBC show, Ace Lightning. Random is a cyborg who sadly is tormented by two programmes, one derived for good and another (possibly developed from a virus) that is strickened with evil, leading to personality conflicts where at times he wants to help Ace Lightning fight and others Random will help the villains fight Ace (his right eye changes color when his personality does, green to good and red to evil). He has a mechanical claw instead of a right hand, caterpillar tracks instead of legs, and a metal plate attached to the side of his face. Random is an old friend of Ace and has helped him in several battles during the time they've known each other. He is 35 years old, his metal parts 6 years old. Random's evil side has a twisted sense of reality, believing he is the destroyed of all things weak in the universe, namely goodness, virtue and Ace Lightning in his mind.

- Random has superhuman strength, allowing him to lift the heavy Anvil into the air, as well as having the raw power to defeat Anvil singlehandedly after the villain becomes so powerful Ace and Sparx have to combine attacks to defeat him.
- Being a cyborg, Random can manipulate machinery and sometimes electricity.
- Since most of his skin has been replaced with pure metal, Random is resistant to most attacks, and can easily deflect them.
- Unlike the other Lightning Knights, Random has not demonstrated any need to periodically "power up" to maintain his strength.
Random is weak against attacks that have been deflected already, but deflected back at him again. This is proven when Ace uses the Shield of Justice in "Tunnel of Love," where Ace bounces his shot off the Shield and is able to knock Random out with the deflected bolt. This is also how Random can be harmed in the computer game.

According to the Year Book, Random is 35 years old, and his body parts are six years old, meaning he obtained them when he was 29. The creators of the show briefly designed an idea that Random obtained both his metal limbs and evil programme after being damaged in a battle which also scrambled his programming. Random Virus doesn't develop numerous grudges with the villains the way Sparx does, but when he does fight the video villains he's most often pitted against Anvil. He spends most of the time hiding out in the town junkyard, afraid that he'll hurt his friends.
Random first came to our world when Dirty Rat stole Mark's piece of the Amulet and Lord Fear's piece as a bonus. Random was controlled by Rat to destroy Mark, but Mark's bravery told Random that he was afraid but not a coward, so the cyborg turned on Rat to help Mark and Ace. Lord Fear soon tried to get Random to join him, but he refused. Lord Fear and Lady Illusion surprised Random with an explosion and bundled him into the back of the ice cream truck. They hid him within the Tunnel of Love at the carnival. Mark found Random, but before he could lead him to safety, Lord Fear appeared and turned Random to evil. Ace appeared with the Shield of Justice and restored Random to the good side.
Random tried to join Lord Fear several times when his evil programme was in control, but the Lightning Knights managed to convince to fight for their cause. In the Season One Finale, Lord Fear restored the Amulet, and started draining the Lightning Knights' powers, Random included. Random joined Ace and Sparx in the final battle, but was thrashed by Anvil and quickly captured with Sparx by Lady Illusion. Mark found the Amulet and shattered it, causing Lord Fear and his minions to return to the game, Random freed from his prison.
In Season 2, Random's dark programme started to grow stronger, making it more difficult for Random to control it. When Kilobyte arrived, he managed to convince Random to join him for a short while, but after witnessing Mark bravely fight against Kilobyte, Random's good side was victorious in the struggle against the two programmes and chased Kilobyte out of the junkyard he lived in.
Kilobyte freed himself from the control of the Master Programmer and began eliminating the Lightning Knights. Random was first on the list, but Kilobyte offered him one final chance to join his forces. Random refused and Kilobyte drained him of his powers, allowing Anvil to finish him off. Ace and Sparx arrived at the junkyard and presumed Random has been destroyed and now back in the Sixth Dimension. But when Sparx was captured, it was revealed Random had been taken to the carnival and placed in an unbreakable forcefield along with Mark's girlfriend Kat.
Ace and Lord Fear freed Random and the others by fusing their attacks with Mark's and destroying Kilobyte. Random witnessed Lord Fear then blast Ace, who was revealed to be Lady Illusion. The real Ace chased off Lord Fear and said farewell to Lady Illusion to presumably died. As Ace wept, Random and Sparx joined him at his side.

In the Ace Lightning computer game, Random Virus is the boss enemy of Climbcrag Castle. He shoots fireballs from his claw, while Ace needs to rebound shots from his lightning lance off many rotating shields hanging from the walls of the room to be able to hurt Random. Whenever he is hit, Random sends out huge fireballs in all directions, which will kill Ace in one hit if they connect. Random is somewhat psychotic than he is in the show and his evil side takes control by making both of Random's eyes turn red instead of one.
