Ramzan Khadzhiev

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ramzan Khadzhiev was chief of the Northern Caucasus bureau of Russian Public Television (ORT).

On August 11, 1996, he was shot in the head while attempting to leave Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, by car with his wife and young son, after being cleared through a military checkpoint. [1]

ORT reported that Chechen rebels targeted Khadzhiev, an ethnic Chechen, because he supported the Moscow-installed government. But an unidentified passenger in their car told Russia's television NTV that Russian armored vehicles had opened fire on them. [2] [3]
