Rampard (ラムパルド, Ramuparudo^?, Rampard in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar^[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Rampard is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Rampard in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.^[2]

Rampard may be derived from the English words ram and rampage.

Biological characteristics

Rampard resembles a Pachycephalosaur, a genus of dinosaurs known for having immensely thick skulls. It has spikes around its upper head and has a 'helmet' on top of its head. Rampard's eyes are blocked by the spikes and the helmet. Its forelegs are quite small, but its hind legs are muscular and large. Rampard's body is huge and it has a long 'fin' along its back, with two spikes on either side of the fin.

Rampard is evolved from Cranidos, who, as in previous generations, is revived from a fossil; like Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Lileep, and Anorith.

It lived in dense forests roughly 100 million years ago and is characterized by its tendency to rampage.

In the video games

Rampard is one of many new Pokémon to make its first appearance in the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS.

Rampard can only be obtained by evolving Cranidos, which is revived from a fossil found exclusively in Pokémon Diamond. Its counterpart, Trideps can only be obtained in Pokémon Pearl, by similarly evolving a revived Shieldon.

It is a pure Rock-type, unlike Trideps, who is part Steel.

Rampard is notable for having the second-highest Attack stat out of all Pokémon, surpassed only by the Attack form of Deoxys, meaning it has the highest natural Attack of any non-legendary Pokémon.

In the anime

Rampard first appears in the episode "The Big Charge Of Ancient Pokémon" where Hyōta's Cranidos evolved into Rampard when Hyōta was battling Team Rocket. Rampard appeared in "Kurogane Gym Again! Decisive Match Against Rampard!" where Ash Ketchum has his rematch against Hyōta.
