Ramona Moore
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ramona Moore was a young, black 21-year old (one account has her at age 23) Hunter College Student who was kidnapped, chained, tortured, raped and murdered in 2003. She lived with her parents, with relatives from Guyana, in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York.
It was reported that Ms. Moore had left her home on April 24th at approximately 7:30 p.m. to see a friend and then left around 9:00 p.m. to eat at a Burger King restaurant at Church and Remsen avenues. There had been no further mention of Ms. Moore since then until her body was found, a few blocks from her home. Her mother, Ellie Carmichael, had received an anonymous phone call, informing her to go to a certain address on King's Highway where a home had experienced a fire. The caller had not been identified. The mother then contacted Police, and then Officers from the 63rd Precinct and Emergency Service Units combed the premises until Ramona Moore's body was discovered, wrapped in a blanket. It was discovered that Ms. Moore had been beaten to death about her head and chest.
The two persons accused and convicted of the crime, Kayson Pearson, 24 years old; and Troy Hendrix, 22 years old. Neither Pearson nor Hendrix showed any remorse in the courtroom. However, Pearson attacked one of the court officers. He also tried to get the court officer's pistol. Pearson went violent in the courtroom on November 24th, trying to escape. He attacked his lawyer, appointed by the Court, with a sharp weapon; "sharpened plastic" according to one report. A mistrial was declared.
One particular individual who witnessed Moore's captivity, did nothing to report her captivity to Police.
Ramona Moore's case was later brought further into the Media light by the abduction, rape, torture and murder of John Jay College Co-Ed, Imette St. Guillen.
