Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport or La Mesa International Airport (IATA: SAP, ICAO: MHLM) is located 11 km from the city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The Ramón Villeda Morales is a major airport in Honduras and it is the only airport in Honduras currently equipped with jetways. The airport handled about 1,238,816(estimate) people in 2005. The airport also handles about 120 flights internationally and domestically. The airport is an excellend port of entry into the country of Honduras because of its excellent connections to tourist attractions such as the Copan Ruins, Roatan, La Ceiba, and Tela. Many travelers prefer to land at San Pedro Sula's airport instead of Tegucigalpa's Tocontin due to the easier approach and smoother arrival. A new terminal is expected to be completed by 2015. This is due to the airport expansion program launched by InterAirports. This is expected to bring Honduras more tourists. It also expected to boost the country's poor economy.
