[edit] Question
I went into the list of protected pages and I see over 100 templates that you protected. Any reason why you did that with 0 discussion about it? That's a bit severe to me. Many of those templates hadn't been touched in 6-7 months. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 01:13, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- I don't really agree with you, but right now, I'm not in the mood to argue. So I'll leave it be. I'd suggest next time, discussing it on Talk:RfP. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 11:38, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
-
- Dmcdevit suggested that I put a notice up on AN or AN/I about it to generate discussion, but I wanted to leave a notice with you first. I'd say we could discuss it on Talk:RfP, but no one reads that. :) Village pump maybe? Dunno. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 11:44, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] template:wikilink
template:book reference is protected but template:wikilink (used in book reference) ist not. Adrian Buehlmann 08:00, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
OK. Thanks for the message. It's just inconsistent because you protected template:book reference. If this was intended to disable a vandal vector, then the protecting of template:book reference has failed due to the unprotected template:wikilink. Please note: I agree with the protection of template:book reference. It is a heavy use template. Adrian Buehlmann 10:25, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] E-mail
I have thought about it for some time, and I have finally decided to enable e-mails from other users. Presumedly, this serves to allow users who do not have e-mail accounts of their own to contact me. If my previous comments seemed too harsh, I apologize for that; I am rather sensitive to people making demands on me for reasons I see as arbitrary. - Mike Rosoft 16:46, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Volume 2, Issue 1
That's what I had in mind initially, and another system for changing the volume numbers doesn't come to mind. And though I did plan for this eventuality, it's still gratifying to see that it will actually happen. --Michael Snow 21:46, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] ArbCom?
You're running for ArbCom? That's cool! Being the one who nominated you for adminship, I'd like to support you on your ArbCom candidacy, but I don't know how to do that. Can you help me?
[edit] Esperanza elections
Hello Ral; as you may be aware, the Esperanza elections are concluding. Did any of you notice any discrepancies at all, and have you checked to make sure we have the correct tally? Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 01:22, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- By the way, for Monday's issue of the Signpost, would you recommend finally doing a profile on each of the candidates now that we have a concrete date for the elections? (Start January 9) I was thinking just a brief look at the statistics (of course, with a nice warning about how statistics can't portray a candidate, etc.), any extra stuff to mention, a quote from a portion of the candidate statement, and then ask each candidate for something else. What do you think? Also, do you think that the candidates should be split up into two issues? THere's enough candidates to justify two issues, but the elections start on the same day the second issue will come out (Monday, January 9). THoughts? Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 02:20, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
-
- Thanks! If a run-off is needed (I haven't checked the page yet), it'll probably be one week. I'll take a look now... I'll wait your approval before starting the page on ArbCom candidates (see above). Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 14:40, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

- Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's pretty much all I was thinking of. If I have time, I might contact every candidate, but it's pretty close to Monday already for that. Thanks again for all your help! Flcelloguy (A note?) 15:35, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Start of Volume 2
Seeing that you had been called away, I went ahead and put this week's Signpost out with what we had. Given that the week was moving along, I figured we can catch up on the tech report and any other stuff next week. --Michael Snow 17:37, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your support on my request for adminship.
The final outcome was (80/3/0), so I am now an administrator. I was flattered by the level of support and the comments, so I'm under real pressure not to disappoint, thus if you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as an admin then please leave me a note --pgk(talk) 10:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[edit] My vote
As I just cast my vote against you in the arbitration elections, I should mention that I do have confidence you could do the job well, so it's not a reflection on your abilities in any way. I think, however, that The Signpost still needs your help, doing both would be a challenge, and there are enough other qualified potential arbitrators that the process can survive with you writing about it instead of participating directly. --Michael Snow 00:19, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. Are you up for this week's issue? If you're still swamped, let me know and I'll be glad to do the final assembly again. --Michael Snow 04:02, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
I've responded re: your question about my vote on my talk page. ALKIVAR™ 14:46, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, Ral315; hope everything's going well. I thought I'd let you know my future regarding the Wikipedia Signpost: I will continue to cover both the Steward elections (which ends today), and the ArbCom election (winners' terms start February 1) until the matters are finished. After that, I'd like to take a short break from writing for the Signpost; after a couple of weeks without worrying about deadlines and such, I'll return to writing the "sporadic" articles - i.e. articles that aren't regular. I may also consider taking up one of the regular beats you currently cover, with your consent, of course. I thought I'd give you some advance notice. Let me know if there's anything you do or don't want me to do. :-) Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:24, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

- There seems to be a misunderstanding. Several issues on wikipedia have convinced me to consider starting a project agaist incivilty; and I simply used her situation as a example. I even explained to her that it was not directed at her, and she replied she took no offense. Taking thesis and concensus form the community, It was clear that she was somewhat incivil in the removal and I only wished to state a point. However, it is your perception that it violates WP:NPA, so I will honor your thoughts and remove it. I, by no means meant a personal attack. Furthurmore, I was completely cool headed in this situation and hold no grudge agaist Kelly Martin.-MegamanZero|Talk 15:32, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Long tail
Nice job on the rendering (but I wonder if its so close to the original in style and color it might not be a copyright violation - not that anyone would probably care). I dont mind deleting the old one but FWIW didnt see it listed on the images for deletion page, if that matters. --Stbalbach 06:36, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Morris Jeppson
Thanks for the heads up about the picture. It's been deleted and now someone messed with it again. I'm not sure what happened. I left a note on there and stated if there is any problem with the picture to let me know. Davidpdx 15:02, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- That's the odd thing, I actually didn't find it someone else did. I wrote an article on a blog called Blue Oregon and the owner found it. Here is a link to the article [1]. I do know the picture was taken by the Army Air Corp in 1948, so I'm sure it should be attributed to the US Government. Davidpdx 15:09, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Bringing to your attention
Thanks for the notice! If they haven't been taken care of yet, I'll do it now. Also, note that there's no official rule prohibiting you or anyone else from doing it (though as a candidate, you probably should stay on the conservative side). Thanks again! [edit] Feeling bad about ArbCom vote
Hi. I voted against you in the ArbCom elections, based basically on your age. My comment on the voting page is pithy and could be read as rude. I would like to expand on the matter now, so as not to leave a bad taste in both our mouths.
Firstly, my view of you as an editor is most definitely very positive. I looked through a random selection of your edits whilst deciding how to cast my ArbCom vote, as I did with every candidate, and what I saw was very impressive. You make useful, often "admin-type" edits (you are an Admin, after all) to lots of articles, with good use of edit summaries.
My concern was basically this: what makes a good editor/admin is not necessarily what makes a good ArbCom member. For me, ArbCom is about dispute-resolution. Just as a lawyer needs different skills from a judge, ArbCom members need to have a good history of conflict-resolution, preferably backed up with some attempts at mediation as well. I am afraid that I did not see this in either your edit history, and as you are so comparatively young, I cannot imagine that you have a huge amount of experience of it in real life. Now, I could be wrong about this, but in that case I felt that you needed to inform me, via the answers to your questions, that you could help in this area. I am sorry if I was wrong, but you needed to prove it to me. Hope that clears some stuff about my vote up, and apologies if you took offense at the rather sarcastic and patronising comment I left on the voting page. Batmanand 17:13, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Follow up
Yes, I'll cover it. They had me down as "Tony Snow" originally, which was a little puzzling. --Michael Snow 23:21, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, can you cover this? I'm about to log off, otherwise I would write it. (By the way, glad the "hell and high water" part made you laugh.) Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:38, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Also, I just want to clear this with you first: would you mind if I voted in the ArbCom elections? I've purposefully tried to stay away from any opinions on the matter, but I don't see a conflict with me voting near the end, but just wanted to run it through you first to be sure. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 02:40, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you think that when we get to 1,000,000 articles here on Wikipedia (english), that we should have a Special Edition for the Signpost. And if so, should we have a vote?

[edit] WP:SIGN Story on WP Organization/WP:WSS
- If you'd like to write an article, go ahead; otherwise, I can give it a short mention in our News and Notes feature. If you do decide to write it, make sure to write it in a NPOV way, and use the third-person (not "we", "the project"). Thanks! Ral315 (talk) 21:35, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- I finished writing it (User:R6MaY89/Stub Sorting). I think it is NPOV enough and gets to the point of discussing the overall effects. If you don't think that it is ready for today's issue, we can hold it off until next week. Also, the title can be edited per your opinion. --ʀ6ʍɑʏ89 05:37, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Signpost
Hi, I am writing to you after having a look at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2006-01-23/News and notes, which mentions you as a contributor. I am absent on both IRC and the mailing list; I primarily use Signpost for getting news abt Wikipedia. You shd probly mention in the next week's signpost that Jimbo Wales was blocked by Celestianpower for a token 1 second during a debate on Category:Living people. [edit] Thanks
Fallout from a vanity page that apparently went bad when somebody googled the subject and found embarrassing information, and then the article wasn't deleted after all. With Wikipedia's profile, unfortunately we're increasingly getting caught in other people's battles.
By the way, you keep showing good editorial judgment on The Signpost. I'm afraid my weekend was too busy to help much, but I fully support your work, including making calls as to what actually gets published. --Michael Snow 21:31, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Anonnotice
Hi, I have found out about the change to Mediawiki:Sitenotice and the new Mediawiki:Anonnotice from the Signpost. But I can not find any posting about that form the systemadministrators or developers on the usual places. I mean https://wikitech.leuksman.com/view/Server_admin_log or Wikitech-l. Can you share with me how you have done this discovery? Greetings, --Walter 16:31, 29 January 2006 (UTC) (RE: here is fine)
[edit] An Esperanzial note
As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
