My advice, no one is supposed to write their own bio articles. Even Jimbo Wells one of the guys who came up with Wikipedia concept was caught editing his biogrphy and has since apologized. Hi.Thanks for leaving a message on my talk page.First let me say I appreciate all the time you've put into editing articles on Wikipedia.And your perspective and your contributions to build an open content encyclopedia are much appreciated.I'm sure it is an unusual experience to work on a Wikipedia article about yourself.The editing and notability discussions can often seem brutal.I hope none of my criticisms of the article come across as criticisms of you, they are not intended to.I do not believe a person's worth as a Wikipedia article subject is related to their worth as a human being.

You brought up a couple of points about the article so I'll try and respond to each.If there was more to your message, please leave me a brief note indicating what I missed.

Just so the main thrust of my response doesn't get lost in all the detail and rationale I want to emphasize, regardless of how much you've written and how many people in Sri Lanka would know your name or recognize your face: We need independent sources who have written about you in order to build an encyclopedia article about you.

1) On the references side:Although I'm sure you're honest and the things your write about yourself are true, such publications do not always satisfy the needs of an encyclopedia.In general, for uncontroversial statements of fact that are not disputed by others, such as when or where you were born, they are normally accepted on Wikipedia, though a secondary, independent source who has found the information by examining records etc. is preferable.For other things the lack of an independent source isn't simply about relying on the rigor of the secondary source to establish the facts, it's also about establishing what is noteworthy about the subject and how to analyze or interpret that in the context of the subject's environment.If no-one else has seen fit to write about it, we have to wonder why Wikipedia readers would want to read about it?What encyclopedia value does it add if the only person to publish on it is the subject of the article?That's why the things you have written yourself are generally not considered appropriate sources for the articles.In general we need references from sources other than yourself (or those who might be expected to speak on your behalf) that confirm the content of the article and to which we can refer as the source of opinions offered in the article.

2) Suitability of the article for Wikipedia:I added a notability tag to the article rather than a deletion request in order to allow time to verify your importance as a subject.I am skeptical about the claim because the things the article talks about you having done - being a journalist, the author of an unpublished book,the author of articles on ezinearticles.com, an officer for an NGO, and the founder of an apparently non-notable organization - do not normally rise to the standard required.But I am aware that the English-language Wikipedia has some systemic bias against subjects not well covered by English-language media, so I wanted to give us all the opportunity to try and establish that notability.

You say Sri Lankans would consider you important if we asked them.Wikipedia isn't equipped to survey people, and in any case that would not give us what we need to ensure we could write an encyclopedic article on you.Perhaps you could point us to evidence of your importance in Sri Lanka, such as interviews with you published in major Sri Lankan newspapers, or your appearance as a major subject of an article by a well respected writer?These do not have to be in English (though we appreciate any translations into English that are available).It is these sorts of things we require to ensure we can build an encyclopedic article, they are the mainstay of the sources from which we can build the article.

Hello! I'm not sure why you contacted me regarding this, as I've not been involved in this article whatsoever. I did leave you an earlier message regarding copyright violation problems with Arumaipperumal-this was deleted as a copyright violation, but you've since rewritten the article in your own words, which is greatly appreciated. You've also established notability and sourced the article, so that particular article will certainly not be deleted.
As to autobiographical articles-these do indeed tend to come under intense scrutiny, and for good reason. Siobhan Hansa has given you some excellent advice and guidance on this matter. The reason we discourage autobiographical writing is that it is just very hard to write neutrally about oneself-that's certainly not any failing in you, it's simply human nature! It's also very difficult to avoid blending personal knowledge (which is original research and disallowed) with information that can be sourced and verified.
When writing autobiographically, it is even more critically important then normal to ensure that all information is verifiable and reliably sourced. Offline sources are fine for this, but the subject must receive non-trivial mention in multiple independent sources to be considered notable-please note that notability is measured on a worldwide scale, though if you can source the fact that you are highly notable in Sri Lanka this would weigh heavily towards retaining the article. You may also wish to look at the guidelines for notability regarding biographies, and as Siobhan Hansa previously noted, the guidelines and cautions regarding autobiography and conflict of interest.
For the record, here's the types of things I generally look at when autobiographical writing comes to light. Many other editors look at similar types of things.
    • You've added a lot of content outside of your autobiography. This certainly counts in your favor.
    • You've been willing to take advice regarding policies and practices here. Again, this very much counts in your favor.
    • You created the autobiographical article, and have been the main editor of it. This does not count in your favor. (removed part of this statement that was in error.) Seraphimblade 21:52, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
    • The article fails to cite sources-again, a mark against.
You do, however, seem to be acting in good faith, so I agree the article should be given some time to cite sources and establish notability. Be aware, though, that the verifiability and reliable source policies are very clear on one point-if information can't be sourced, it does not belong here. I would strongly advise you to trim down the article to only verifiable and reliably sourced information, and to cite sources showing that information to be correct. I'd also advise, in the future, that you seek consensus on the article's talk page before editing your own biography (except for things like minor spelling/grammar corrections or the reversion of blatant vandalism). I would also make sure to identify yourself on the article's talk page as the subject of the article-this type of disclosure is highly recommended, and helps to assure other editors that honesty and full disclosure are something they can expect. You have recently uploaded Image:Anton Balasingham.jpg, Image:Anton Balasingham22.jpg, Image:Anton Balasingham32.jpg and Image:Anton Balasingham42.jpg which are all supposed to illustrate a section of a biographical article, Anton Balasingham. Fair use criteria #3 says: "The amount of copyrighted work used should be as little as possible". Since the event which the images are meant to illustrate is barely mentioned in the article I have removed all four of the images. If you were to improve the article and write a section about the funeral I would suggest using Image:Anton Balasingham.jpg.

  • You cannot copy and paste text from another website (unless you are quoting someone). Articles need to be written in the words of a editor, that is our contribution to Wikipedia. See WP:C.
  • Wikipedia's articles need to be neutral, and allow for what some might view as negative aspects on any subject (like criticism). See WP:NPOV.
  • If you have a dispute with another editor try to work it out on the talk page. If you revert more than three times within a period of 24 hours you risk a 24 hour block (you risk being blocked even longer for apparent bad faith edits). See WP:3RR.
  • Articles need to have good sources. Don't remove sources from the article without a good reason. See WP:V, WP:RS and WP:CITE.

My advise to you is never to respond back in kind, never contravine any WP rules and take your time to respond properly. On your behalf I have left a request on one of the users page. We can see how far either it escalates or cooles down in the future, but at the end always stick to the rules and the wiki process will take care of the offending parties. I'm unsure why you left a note for me, I've not really been involved with this article? If you're having a content dispute with other editors, you should look to the dispute resolution process, which will put the matter before uninvolved editors, often helping to resolve the dispute. Jimbo Wales doesn't generally get involved in content disputes except in the most extreme cases, which this doesn't seem to be one of, so I doubt you'd get far there. I would also caution that accusing other editors of bad faith is not to be done lightly-unless you have some evidence that another editoris acting or intends to act in bad faith, one should always assume good faith, even during a disagreement. If the other side is genuinely acting in bad faith, that will quickly come to light on its own, and the offender will be dealt with. I echo the sentiments of RaveenS, that if you are being personally attacked, it is best not to respond in kind. Personal attacks will not be long tolerated, and if the offender does not stop, (s)he will find h(im|er)self blocked or otherwise sanctioned. I voted as I felt, but if I were you I will no longer argue for or against ones own article, that somehow does not sound kosher although I cant quote the policy. But one has to always follow WP:BIO to the letter. Even if the article is deleted please dont stop contributing to Wikipedia as time goes on and you become a truely seasoned editor in the years to come, all this will look trivial at the point. Just to let you know, you may wish to consider filing a request for comment rather than posting to a bunch of talk pages. I'm certainly generally happy to provide outside opinions in a dispute, but am not really in an expert in the areas you normally edit, quite often an RFC gets comments from those who are interested and knowledgeable in that specific area. If you're unfamiliar with the process, I can certainly walk you through it. There are also other methods of dispute resolution which are often helpful. If you want to file an RfC, you'd want to file it under the Biography RfC section. You'll want to state what the dispute is over, though of course those who come to the article via RfC may wish to comment on other aspects of the article as well. You must state the RfC in a neutral manner-something like "Debate over whether it is appropriate to call article's subject a terrorist" would be acceptable, but something like "Debate over whether we can call someone a terrorist who really isn't" would most certainly not be. I have voted on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rajkumar Kanagasingam which is my own biography article, after I noticed the Delete vote of User Lahiru_k at 07:09, 31 December 2006 (UTC) just three hours after the AFD tag was put by User Nv8200p at 04:27, 31 December 2006 (UTC).Lahiru_k has never done any editing on my article and his rush for voting, made me to suspect the whole deletion process as a Sinister AFD Scam and prompted me through the DoDoBirds as a third party voice to high light my various activities which are documented in the off-line media sources.

2. I have voted twice on the Template deletion Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2007_January_6#Template:State_terrorism_in_Sri_Lanka as I have personally affcted by the state terrorism in Sri Lanka since my childhood in the war-torn Jaffna Peninsula.

If I were you I would have waited the 48 hours before posting about the Rfc in everybody else’s talk page. It is not the process in Wikipedia. So far no one has seconded your case and I think the case fails in number points because 2 third parties did not try to resolve the so called dispute with you and Netmonger. But by posting in everybody else’s talk pages now you have made it a public case and made Netmonger’s job easy to find the 2 people! So dont do such things in the future.

Although as far as I am concerned there is no dispute between you and Netmonger because no two third parties have been asked to resolve it. Hence no legit Rfc.

Just relax and take it easy also don’t be overly concerned about the Bio article either. You cannot waste all your time in Wikipedia chasing one article, with time with your contribution to the world the article will assume a legitimacy that will not need your intervention. Who is chasing Anton Balasingham page ? we all are and your bio too will assume such legitimacy with contributions to the world that no one will question in time.
