"Rajnigandha" was considered as a fresh outlook on cinema in 1974 where blockbusters were ruling over Bollywood. Actor Amol Palekar later on worked with Basu Chatterjee in subsequent films and Amol's hits include Choti si Baat (1977), Chitchor (1977), Gharaonda (1980) and later Golmaal (1980). After his time as actor on the big screen, Amol Palekar grew as an excellent director with films like Akriet (1987), Thodisi Roomani Ho Jaye (1991) and Paheli (2005). Dinesh Thakur played minor rules but starred in the first episodes of Indian soap Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2000) while Vidya Sinha played marvellously in Tyaag Patra (1978)and Pati, Patni aur Woh (1979) opposite Sanjeev Kumar.

The film is worth watching and characterises an era of simple, short and low-budget movies that India made in the 1970s. Some Rajshri films follow the trend. The music director of this film was Salil Chawdhury, an extremely talented musician from Bengal. Music of this movie has always been considered an exceptionally influencing.
