Raja Raja Varma was an accomplished painter in Tanjore style of painting. He was the uncle of Raja Ravi Varma. He is credited with giving the first drawing lessons to Ravi Varma. He also took keen interest in further training and education of Ravi varma with the help of then ruling king, Ayilyam Thirunal.
