[edit] Plot summary
As the episode begins, Stoner begins an interview with Dr. Egan and Norb in the Gekko lounge. Dr. Egan begins with his theory that the Scub Coral is an intelligent life form, and that Coralians are its means of communication. He explains that the military's use of Project Orange weaponry is to induce Coralian antibody counterattack. Dr. Egan then explains that his research points to a "Limit of Questions", a limit of intelligent life, beyond which the physical universe cannot be sustained. At this point, Norb begins to explain some of the Vodarek teachings, namely the concept of Vodarek as the state of being, and intelligent life as the wanderings of life. He explains that the "land is dreaming," its thoughts are generated throughout the world as Trapar, and Dr. Egan excitedly tells the crew that his theory also predicted a state of sleep for the planet.
Aboard the Izumo, the Ageha children collect the data from the Orange attack, eagerly anticipating the counterattack.
Dr. Egan shares the information he and Mischa found in the capital's intelligence database. He says that the data found indicates that the Great Wall is a point in space where all laws of physics are not in effect. He theorizes that a large asteroid impact in the past triggered the release of Coralian antibodies and the Limit of Questions. Although the planet re-entered a sleep state, the area called the Great Wall still exceeded the Limit of Questions. Should all of the planet be awakened, that "null space" would envelop the entire universe.
Norb says that they must make contact with Scub Coral and the "Vodarek beyond" before that happens, leading to a discussion about trapar and thoughts. Renton recalls his experience with Neil in "Sky Rock Gate". After Norb explains the concept of "compac" following a discussion of compac drives, Stoner suggests sending an edited copy of the interview to the media. After Sonia raises the question of why the military is trying to awaken the Scub Coral, Dr. Egan replies that their objective is to destroy all Coralians first. Norb corrects him, saying that this is Dewey's personal objective.
As the city targeted by the Orange attack is counterattacked by Coralian antibodies, Anemone and a squadron of VC10 KLFs arrive to begin attacking the Coralians. Using the power relayed from the support KLFs, Anemone releases a pulse of dark energy, instantly killing several Coralians. Aboard the Izumo, the Ageha children coldly tell an indignant Dominic to remain silent, and say that they have sent in Anemone just before the Coralians would withdraw, because they knew that they could not destroy all of the Coralians. The "rescue operation" has been staged to appear as if the Ageha squad caused the Coralians to withdraw.
Dewey holds a press conference in a large stadium near the attacked city, broadcasting footage of the Coralian counterattacks as unprovoked attacks. He discredits the Council of the Sages, calling on the public for support and unveiling the Ageha Squad to the world. He uses Adrock's hero status to further support his cause, and falsely informs them of a Coralian attack on the capital.
Aboard the Gekko, the crew says that they cannot give the interview to the mass media, as Dewey's broadcast has rendered it ineffective. Stoner says that he will instead publish it in ray=out.
Their work done, the Tresor staff departs for the laboratory to determine when the Limit of Questions might be exceeded. Mischa reconciles with Dr. Egan, who quietly tells her that Eureka's development is progressing too quickly.
Eureka and Renton talk about Dewey's broadcast in the hangar. Norb tells Holland that Eureka's ability to be a human's partner aboard the Nirvash has a time limit; as Eureka evolves, this ability diminishes. Aboard Dewey's flagship, Dominic realizes that the "Coralian attack" on Capitol Hill is false information. Eureka tells Renton that Adrock, his father, said the future is beyond the Great Wall.
