Railnews is a national monthly newspaper and news website for the British railway network.

[edit] Content

In contrast to rail enthusiast magazines such as Entrain and RAIL that often concentrate on locomotives, rolling stock (see train spotting), Railnews concentrates on issues important to employees of the rail network, such as investment (or lack of it), jobs, and trade union power struggles.

Railnews was originally the house-paper of British Railways (later British Rail), published by the British Railways Board. It first appeared in 1963 with a price of 6d. From 1978 to October 1996 it was issued free to all employees of British Rail. In 1996, on the privatisation of British Rail, production ended. In February 1997 it was revived by some former managers, with Sir William MacAlpine, 6th Baronet Agrees as its chairman
