Rail transport in Belize
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are no trains in Belize at present (2006). Historically, the only railroad in Belize was Stann Creek Railway constructed by United Fruit, which connected Middlesex Estate with the port of Dangriga. It operated in from 1913 till 1937 when it was abandoned. Many remains are still visible along the Hummingbird Highway (between Dangriga and Belmopan). This road at certain points uses the old railroad bridges, though they gradually disappear due to modernization effort.
