Rail transit in Baltimore, Maryland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The greater Baltimore, Maryland, region is served by several rail rail-based public transit systems:
- The Baltimore Light Rail system, a light rail network that runs generally north-south through parts of Baltimore, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County
- The Baltimore Metro Subway, a rapid transit line that runs northwest-southeast through parts of Baltimore and Baltimore County
- MARC, a commuter rail connecting Baltimore with Washington, D.C.
A one-way ticket on the Light Rail or Metro Subway is $1.60; there is no free transfer between the two systems. Daily, weekly, and monthly passes are also available that are good for both systems and for MTA buses. MARC has its own system of tickets and passes, with fares determined by distance traveled.
In addition to these lines, there are two proposed new transit lines for the area:
- The Red Line, a proposed east-west line that would connect western Baltimore County and downtown Baltimore
- The Green Line, a proposed line running northeast from the current eastern terminus of the Metro Subway
Both are still in the planning stages, and there is no firm commitment on the transit mode that will be employed or even as to whether they will be built at all.
For more information on all of these lines, please see the individual pages.
