Am I to take it that this is an indication of refusal to mediate? It would be most helpful if you would indicate as much on Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, at least as a courtesy to the Mediation Committee. Essjay (Talk) 00:12, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help with a few ignorant and stubborn people
Sorry to be bothering you Ragib but it seems there are forces out there that try to keep facts in check through their own take on history. Case in point seems to be a certain user RedArrow who despite my best attempts to provide a balanced view of the Atlantique Incident and despite Bharatveer's reverts on the article keeps moving back to his own version despite lack of neutral sources. Moreover he takes this flawed version to the Pakistan Navy too and argues that the PNS Ghazi somehow "singlehanndedly blockaded" the entire Western Naval fleet based on one source - Defence Journal - a Pakistani military publication. Despite trying to provide contradictory evidence or the lack thereof, in the talk pages he refuses to accept it accusing me of POV etc.
Additionally you might want to take a look at (and keep it in your watchlist) Richard Nixon where User:Rjensen origianlly claimed the 1971 genocide and the relevant recordings on Nixon and Kissinger were "original research" then after a glance at the BBC article seemed to change the entire wordings to suit his needs. Please assist. Tx --Idleguy 18:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again Ragib. It seems I too had violated the 3RR. :| But in the Richard Nixon article, you have actually warned the lesser of the two problematic editors, i.e. Cripipper instead of Rjensen who has been blatantly adding fake history when the source given says otherwise. This diff says "Nixon was reluctant to give any vocal support" when the source says they provided military assistance. I'm restoring only the select paragraph instead of reverting. I hope that's not a problem. Idleguy 02:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- btw, the Atlantique Incident and Pakistan Navy remain unreverted with a propagandist version on events. I've provided neutral sources like TIME and orbat.com among others but it seem like banging on a brick wall when I try to point that this link says nowhere "stolen" debris of the plane as he keeps insisting. Same situation with the PN page. Idleguy 02:25, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- If you can spare some time, try looking at Richard Nixon page histories where despite providing sources he keeps claiming that the 71 genocide was first "Indian claim" then "media reports". It seems he has little grasp on the events of the 71 war but being a staunch pro-Nixon fan seems to put him on a pedastal. After I made so many edits to enlarge the perspective he now has tagged it as POV since he seemed to have been offended by so much bad publicity. I've also reported User:RedaRRow for 3RR but it seems he is blatantly misquoting sources and blindly reverting any edits of mine, even ones attempted to reach a compromise. Please take some time to resolve these issues since I myself am constrained by time. Idleguy 13:47, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nonsense: I have been adding correct history. The article is about Nixon and it should explain his policies, not be used as a launch pad to vent Indian hatreds of Pakistan--and Indian resentlment that Nixon privately called Indira a witch! The issue as Nixon explained was how to avoid war and help the refugees, while keeping a strong American ally. This is not the article to discuss the atrocities -- it is about American policies. Rjensen 21:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Atanveer9
Ragib,
Are you Wikipedia employee or just a user? I am still confused what gives you the right to delete any new entry without event understanding the content.
I am adding a new entry to define the term BDEvents which has recently been a talk topic between all Bangladeshis in USA. It is not a company nor a profit sharing website. It is just a community and forum like BNP or Jatiya Party.
Not sure how much you understand of that and why you delete any further entry.
So for curiosity my question is, are you employed by wikipedia (so have been asked to protect any new term) or you just get notified for anything to do with bangladesh? How does it work? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Atanveer9 (talk • contribs).
- Wikipedia doesn't have "employees" per se, rather it is built with a worldwide group of volunteer editors. A task for them is to detect advertising, hoax, and spam. Wikipedia also has a group of administrators who are authorized to remove content. I edit Bangladesh related articles extensively, and noted your spam to several pages. Wikipedia is not the place to promote your website, no matter what the goals of your site is. Thank you. --Ragib 18:25, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Duncharris
Hi. I'm assuming you know that most of the edits that User:Duncharris reverts are mine. He's accused me of trolling, and I'd like to make my position on this clear, before anyone starts blocking me for incivility or the like. You're impartial, so I feel it'd be best to make my case here, on your talk page.
Duncharris sometimes makes his views felt rather strongly on some topics, notably railways and pseudoscience. I myself am a bit of a railway buff, so on some edits we can clash slightly. When we do, I try to stay calm, and I leave a civil note on his talk page, which gets promptly reverted. Some of his edit summaries, notably [1], [2], [3] and [4] can get a little grating at times, so I leave him a warning, which again gets promptly reverted, followed by edits on Greenfinch's talk page, removing my notice on edit summaries, and removing cleanup tags I placed at here and here(both of which on articles I often watch for vandalism, and which he has never before edited). The most recent note I left was on this edit summary, which frankly in my opinion was uncalled for. I admit at times I have been less than civil, but I hope you can see where I'm coming from.
I don't expect you to do anything about this, but I hope this at least shows my viewpoint on matters. Thankyou HawkerTyphoon 19:43, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know and don't want to know about whatever disagreement or issues exist between Dunc and you, but in any case, if you feel his actions are improper, please make a note at Admin's noticeboard or Admin's noticeboard/Incidents. Thanks. --Ragib 19:48, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Ragib Bhai, I have created above mentioned article but have failed to cite the references in the right place. I mentioned the reference in the bottom, but how to refer to it? Would you please have a look?
- Please see WP:CITE to see the ref-styled references. You can also check out pages like Bangladesh to see how these are used. --Ragib 05:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Furthermore, After completion of writing this article, I want to add zist of it into Bengali literature. Is it possible? Thanks - Auyon 14:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, that's the style preferred in wiki .... i.e. move specific info to its own article, and add the summary to the parent article, and link to the child using the {{main article}} tag. --Ragib 05:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stamps
Hello. I read your comments on fair use stamps. I am not very clear about the fair-use issue yet. For example Image:Bhatkhandestamp.jpg was removed from the article Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande. I had uploaded the image to "to illustrate the stamp in question". I put the image to illustrate the sentence "The Posts and Telegraph Department of India also paid homage to Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande by releasing, on 1 September, 1961, a commemorative stamp portraying Bhatkhande. That particular date was chosen as it was Janmashtami on that day.". The sentence was in the death and legacy section. There cannot exist free images of a stamp and it will come in public domain after many years. So there doesn't exist any way to illustrate the stamp in question. Isn't that a valid fair use? - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 07:47, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the image description page for the image you mentioned above does not have the fair use rationale. If you do refer to the stamp in the text (not a one liner, but at least something more than that), and use the stamp image right there, the stamp usage may be justifiable under "Fair use".
- I myself added a lot of stamp images to articles in the past. However, I had a discussion with another user over this, which led me to read the guideline in detail. Many of the stamps are used in article as yet another image to illustrate the subject. Just adding a caption like "Postage stamp of <insert country name> to commemorate <insert person name>" isn't an argument for fair use of the stamp image. Unless the text has specific, non-trivial mention of the stamp, it should not be used. "Fair use" is a very vague criteria, and it is better not to walk the thin red line ... if we are to keep wikipedia as free as we want it to be. Thanks. --Ragib 22:38, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
- As I said above, stamps are allowed *only to illustrate the stamp, not the subject*. So, stamps are perfectly ok in philatellic articles. However, when it comes to biography pages of the subject, claiming it is fair use to have the stamp is questionable. I looked into the article, the stamp is not at all the focus of the article. So, the stamp you mentioned would have been ok in something like "Indian postage stamps on freedom fighters", but can't be used just by saying "India issued a stamp on him <stamp image>" in the article text. It is sort of like the Time magazine covers issue. It is better to have the article free under GFDL rather than have a "fair use" image, where the usage may become questionable. Thanks. --Ragib 23:53, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Thanks for the explanation. I think I got the point now. I will make it a point to add fair-use image only if there is a real need for it. You can go ahead and delete the image. Cheers. - Aksi_great (talk - review me) 05:09, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

The Bengali script on the article shows up as a line of question marks. Bakaman Bakatalk 23:32, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfC
Since you are an admin, I request you to take a look at HolyWarrior's (I saw your discussion with Blnguyen so I scrapped the "conspiracy theory". I found out you also felt his wrath so sorry for accusing you.) RfC he filed on me [6]. Half the diffs don't pertain to me. He also is conniving with another user to (possibly) get me blocked [7]. He has a nice and colorful record of personal attacks and now is harrassing me. I also showed this to Rama's Arrow who said the RfC had no case and was improperly made.Bakaman Bakatalk 03:28, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi there Ragib. Since you have some awareness of these matters, you are welcome to give your opinions on the conduct of Holywarrior, BhaiSaab, Bakasuprman, and Subhash_bose recently, as there is a long long discussion which may be a bit complex, so it would be good to see if there is something I've gotten confused or made a worng call on (I've spent at least 6-7 hours in the last two days studying all the shenanigans). Thanks, Blnguyen | rant-line 05:20, 9 August 2006 (UTC).
- User:BhaiSaab (the one trying to get me blocked) has put a case on the Wp:AN board [8] . Many of these edits came before I learned what Wp:NPA even was. Some were from my first edits ever on Wiki, even before I was welcomed by thunderboltz. He has been digging through my CONTRIBUTIONS for any thing he can get his hands on.Since I apologized to the attacks I made on you above I feel they are null. I also worked out my problems with User:Hornplease. I have decided to spend less time arguing and more time contributing like on the (Bengal history pages). The admininstrator who BhaiSaab contacted for the case became hostile when I confronted him about how BhaiSaab never notified me of any case.[9] I would like to have time to contribute but these Rfc, Rfa and all this garbage has been sapping my time. Since I found out Holywarrior also attacked you, I value your input on this attack. Bakaman Bakatalk 21:51, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Banglapedia
The site Banglapedia seems to be a really good resource for Bengal related articles. Just thought I'd share it with you. Bakaman Bakatalk 01:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Banglapedia is the national encyclopedia of Bangladesh. It is not, technically, created by the govt, rather it was funded by the Govt and other organizations, and created by university and college professors, scholars, intellectuals under the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. The search.com.bd site is actually a mirror ... a lot of them sprang up after Banglapedia released their content on CD. --Ragib 01:43, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, that explains quite a bit. Its a great site, I got a lot of info on 19th century and stuff from there. Bakaman Bakatalk 04:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
On the Vangiya Sahitya Parishad article, it says the Maharaja donated 7 ""kathas" of land. Do you know what a katha is? I felt it was a notable fact so I rewrote on the Wiki page, but I would like to know the measure of a katha.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:21, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Katha is a measure of land used in Bengal. 1 katha = 720 square feet. 1 bigha = 20 katha = 14,400 square feet. See [10] for more details. --Ragib 17:25, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

- No, but the presentation of the text (i.e. the news report itself, and the text structure/sentence/presentation therein) *is*. You could simply have written it in your own words. Copypasting a copyrighted news item is copyright violation. Thanks. --Ragib 05:12, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sandesh
Yeah, a lot of websites I found said paneer [11], [12]. Also the channa side has a large amount of recipes too. Is the chana version more prevalent? Bakaman Bakatalk 18:04, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm, it appears that I was mistaken ... it IS made from a form of cottage cheese. Sorry about that (never made sandesh ... only a big fan of it :D ). --Ragib 18:07, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually we could say it is also made from chana. I found many recipes calling for chana. I'll say "Some recipes of Sandesh call for the use of Chana instead of Paneer" Bakaman Bakatalk 18:09, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Banglapedia shows regional variants of Sandesh made from mawa or dried milk, and dried curd too. --Ragib 18:11, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Could you tell me the correct code to cite references at the bottom of the page? On the Sandesh Page I typed the three sites that I got info from again (as references) but they showed up as links #4,5,6 instead of showing the #1,2,3. Bakaman Bakatalk 01:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE : population of muslims in india
At least, the population figure for East Pakistan (1971) stated above is *wrong*. The population of independent Bangladesh, according to the 1974 census, was 71.3 million [8]. Even considering the large number of Bengalis (between 1-1.5 million) (both Hindu and Muslims) killed by Pakistan Army in Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, the number was never above 75 million at that time. The population of west pakistan was lower than this, as Bengalis were 56% of the population of united pakistan. --Ragib 20:47, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
On my part i found the information from some old arcives from the liaquat national library here in karachi and the arcives were official pakistani documents of the time.
never the less according to cia world fact book the bangladeshi population is 147,365,352 (July 2006 est.) and the pakistani population is 165,803,560 (July 2006 est.) so how do we explain this —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Madman 0014 (talk • contribs).
Well, the 1974 census IS an official, scientific document, and definitely that contradicts whatever stats you have. As for the current estimate, are you asking me why Pakistani population is larger than that of Bangladesh? Perhaps population control and family planning activities are not as successful in Pakistan as they are in Bangladesh? The population growth rate figures suggest just that. Thanks. --Ragib 08:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
what iam saying is that due to differnt political resons the population is shown more or less wether it be pakistan, bangladesh or india my real question was on the muslim population of india? --User:Madman_0014

[edit] Renaissance
Just like the renaissance in europe was from the 1300-1500's the Bengali renaissance (At least in my view) was at least from Ram Mohan Roy times (Early 1800's) to Independence (1947) when Bengal was split in two. The period, (at least to my understanding) was a time for the intellectual flowering of Bengali people, and I'm certain Kazi Nasrul was a major contributor to bengali literature. As for SC Chattopadhyay, he was in the same time period with Tagore, and since Tagore was an undisputed force in the renaissance, I added SC by association.Bakaman Bakatalk 23:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- It says Nasrul fell into depression in 1941. Also, people like Tagore contributed well into the 1940's. Nasrul, as the wiki page says, made most of his contribs in the 20's, thereby keeping him in the "early twentieth century". Bakaman Bakatalk 23:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hi Ragib, can u guide me?
Hi Ragib,
Pinaki here. I introduce myself as a multilingual author, writing both in Bengali and English. I have 5 published books (publisher Dey's Publishing of Kolkata) in Bengali, 2 of which became bestsellers. I am also noted in Kolkata as being the first person in India to launch Bengali language greeting cards (brand Swapner Karkhana created by me. Being a designer & copywriter I design most of the releases myself. I am also a very regular writewr of well known Indian Bengali magazines like Sananda and Unish Kuri. My site is www.pinaki.bravehost.com
It seems you have read books of my father, Prabir Ghosh; the rationalist. I am presently writing ebooks, webcontent etc in English, for clients from US, UK and Germany. Why I am writing al these is that I saw your note about my father and became interested about you and studied your achievements. They are fantastic!!! Can you guide me and let me know, how I can become a wikipedia official editor like you? Surely they pay for the work? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pinaki ghosh (talk • contribs).

Dear Ragiv, Thank you for adding the Bengali name to Taraknath Das; you are most welcome to think of the other personalities I have written about. After you have solved your REAL LIFE occupations, will it be convenient for you to add some photos to a few of these articles ? Even if I am awkward in this matter, I can send you the photos. [edit] Temples & stuff
I made an infobox for Hindu temples Template:Mandir infobox. The banglapedia article has the most info on it, but I only have time for a passing glance right now. If you could find an image, that would really be appreciated, so the infobox looks nice.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] mughalstan
actually the site went off the main server about a month ago, after it was banned by indian government. I was no way involved in the creation of the article, so you will have to wait for some time for further information. But it is not an original research, as tagged by you. It just reported the views of some organisation. nids(♂) 05:29, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, Dalitstan is a real site, but the server is down. A google search will bring out the cache for all the info.Bakaman Bakatalk 16:36, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kantaji Temple
I made a large edit here. I kept a section copied (but quoted and sourced) from Bangalpedia commented out, pending a possible rewrite. Since you are an admin, I was looking at the proper way to present the info.Bakaman Bakatalk 19:57, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't exactly understand what the numbers mean in the text. I'm not an expert in architecture and some of the wrods they use to describe it are words I have never hearsd before. I rewrote about a third of it, and kept the rest commented out for now. I will re-write the rest a bit later.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:54, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jenah stamp
It's public domain because the stamp was issued before 1979, i.e. before the Iranian revolution. The current government of Iran does not recognize any stamp, currency, or bank notes printed prior to the revolution. Simply put, the Islamic Republic of Iran officially considers the pre-revolutionary government of Iran illegal.--Zereshk 16:08, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- If I recall correctly, I took the image myself. It is from my personal stamp collection. The resolution is low because the stamp itself was printed low quality.
- However I dont think this is very important as the image now has been orphaned. It's practically useless anyway.--Zereshk 17:27, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sakta Pitha
10 minutes after creation, its already been prodded. Do you know how to get in unprodded? Bakaman Bakatalk 18:02, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I moved it to Shakti Pitha. Its the more proper use of the word, and added a crude English traslation.Bakaman Bakatalk 18:05, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure whether the literal translation works (the Shakti is probably referring to the Shakti sect?). But anyway, you can add another source ... right now, it only refers to Banglapedia. Prod's can be removed if you oppose it. But in any case, it is not possible to delete a well referenced article. So, your next step should be to find out more refs. --Ragib 18:11, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Swami Ramdev
Its been eroded by IP vandals and the like. I commented out sections for User:Wikipost to rewrite. If he isn't forthcoming, I will rewrite it myself.Bakaman Bakatalk 02:57, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Can you semiprotect it? User:Sfacets, User:Wikipost and I are trying to make it good but IP addresses keep messing with it. Bakaman Bakatalk 18:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comment from Habz
RAGIB,
WHY HAVE YOU LOCKED THE DRISHTIPAT SITE? I ADDED A LEGITIMATE POINT ABOUT DRISHTIPAT LONDON BEING FULL OF DHAKAIYAS (WHILE MOST OF US HERE ARE SYLHETIS). I EVEN PROVIDED A LINK TO THE DRISHTIPAT THREAD WHERE A MEMBER ADMITS THIS. SO WHY ARE MY EDITS BEING BLOCKED?
A TRUE PICTURE OF DRISHTIPAT SHOULD BE PROVIDED TO PEOPLE WHO READ THIS SITE.
DID U KNOW THAT ASIF SALEH MADE FUN OF OUR SYLHETI LANGUAGE?
...WHICH REGION OF BD ARE YOU FROM? YOU DON'T SOUND LIKE A FELLOW SYLHETI.
PS...I CHANGED UR HOME SITE AS I DONT KNOW HOW TO USE THE WIKI SITE VERY WELL. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Habz (talk • contribs).

- The page in question has been semi-protected to prevent the edit war between the anonymous IPs.
- If you have a legitimate point backed by citation from proper sources (and NOT from "forums"), feel free to add it to the article. Discussing the point in the talk page also helps.
- If you have a bickering with a person in real life, you must not bring it to Wikipedia.
- I really don't care what has been said by anyone, outside the scope of Wikipedia. Thank you.
- What region I'm from? Does it matter? Should it matter? Feel free to be guessing about that. Bangladesh is a very small country, and petty regionalism is ridiculous in that context.
- Writing in all CAPS is considered shouting.
- Thank you. --Ragib 01:18, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Habz, I am really sorry but I do think Ragib is kind of right you know. You are new here so you might have time adjusting I guess but remember this- first you are a Bangladeshi, then Sylheti, Dhakaiya etc. You know what, I am really not a "real Dhakaiya". My home village is another district. I used this username because my friends do not agree with my ideas and I used this name as a kind of rebellion against them, to show that I have been born and brought uo in this city, Dhaka is my home, Dhaka is my life, Every inch and corner of Bangladesh runs through my blood. Being Sylheti, Dhakaiya or Chatgaiya really doesn't matter. It is being Bangladeshi that does. (Ahnaf 11:42, 2 September 2006 (UTC)). Sorry Ragib, I am posting a private message in your talk page. May be you would like to delete it about a week later.
[edit] Photos
Have uploaded to nice photos to Dhaka article. Had to work very hard with a friend to make him give permission for any kind of use. May be you could upload them to the commons and use them in Bangla Wikipedia. (Ahnaf 11:34, 2 September 2006 (UTC))
[edit] Thanks for the comments on Habib
Hi... Thanks for the comments on the Habib discussion page. Actually I had already fixed it before I wrote that comment in the discussion page. I am going to go through and revamp the entire Bangla music section. When I see how much you've done and continue to do I feel a lot of respect. Almost every page has some relating to Bangla and Bengalis has some of your contributions.
I was hoping to get a lot more done so far (including writing part-time for Bangla) but my day job which pays the bills takes too much of my time (even during this long weekend)... and of course there is college football. Take care. --Antorjal 20:34, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- I am so sorry I am still not able to participate in Bangla yet... I am coming up for my thesis defence soon from Ohio State... noticed you were at another Big-10 school... UIUC (though not a big football school like OSU prolly better in basketball). I'm working on unicode right now but need to get my hands set faster. Also trying to get as many articles edited this Labor Day Weekend as possible. Take care and rock on.--Anirban 21:10, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion sorting
Hi Ragib, Is there a Bangladesh deletion sorting subproject like WP:DSI. I come across some Bangladeshi afd and prods while patrolling for Indian ones sometimes. I can add those to the subproject if you can point me there -- Lost(talk) 07:49, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- Oh well... If there are so few of you, then I can just use your talk page to put up the articles. They will probably get more attention here than if I create a separate page. Hope you dont mind. -- Lost(talk) 07:59, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vande Mataram
Edit war brewing. Some users think that the Hindi script should not be kept there. I'm reinstating the Hindi script, because whether those users like it or not, Hindi is the most used language in India, and also because Bankim Chaterji's name is written in Hindi on wiki. I really don't see the logic in only having the Bengali version when the majority of Indian users read Devanagari. Bakaman Bakatalk 15:53, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Maurya Empire
Hello Ragib,
There is an edit war brewing on the Maurya Empire page. Specifically, a user insists on citing a discredited source in order to develop his theory that the Bindusara and Ashoka had greek blood in them--which even he admits is baseless or far-fetched in the least. Moreover, this base is then used on that user's much contributed Indo-Greek page to establish that the indo-greeks invaded india for noble reasons such as to protect buddhism and to lay dynastic claim to the mauryan empire--also discredited.
I tried to discuss with that author on the talk page and history as to why it's discredited. Accordingly, I even noted that these assertions are not rooted in fact, and the user still attempted to justify them. Moreover, even though this is a case of sneaky vandalism, and theh 3RR rule does not apply, I desisted from deleting in order to avoid an edit war. Content is being disputed here.
Nevertheless, that user sent a thug named Aldux to use charged language to intimidate me. This Aldux has been guilty in the past of being uncivil almost to the point of violating Wikipedia community behavior. In any event, I figured it would be best to appeal to a moderator to resolve the dispute appropriately. My concern is that just like the british colonial historians harmed South Asian history by crediting every ancient accomplishment to the greeks and others, this user is using british colonial historians (who insist that Alexander conquered to unify mankind and who used opinion and not fact as demonstrated in the citation) to appropriate the mauryan legacy for his own purposes. My only concern is the veracity of history and not to drive opinion for a political purpose. Said user is using opinion to construct a theory with a political purpose, claiming that an extremist opinion is mainstream. I only seek the truth. We require your assistance on the page.
Regards,
Devanampriya
- Hmmm... Devanampriya, never heard of WP:CIV and WP:NPA? I'm not sure calling me "thug" respects these policies... And BTW, if I'm such a source of concern for the community, why did it nominate me admin just last July, with hardly any opposition? And a last thing; PHG didn't call me, simply his user page is on my watchlist. (Sorry for awnsering here, Ragib)--Aldux 20:23, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- (Sorry for responding here, Ragib)
- Well, Aldux, perhaps you should also reread those yourself since you haven't really been behaving in accordance with those rules. Your usage of charged language i.e. "you will pay the consequences...!". and attempts at intimidation have been noted by myself and other contributors. As for why the community nominated you as an admin, perhaps a referral of your recent behavior and language might be of interest to them And lastly, PHG's request for help is on your discussion page, so please don't be dishonest. I believe wikipedia would have some rules on lying too.

The initial ambition to create articles automatically has so far not worked out. However, articles have been created across wikis in various languages based on the translations. See for example [17], [18], [19], etc. The problem right now for Bangla is that Bengali script doesn't work on my computer at the moment. --Soman 08:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC) Could you suggest a good bangla unicode font to download? --Soman 08:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dhaka- Featured Article ?
Hi Ragib, its me (Ahnaf 16:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)), isn't it high time Dhaka was made a featured article? Its good no doubt about that, there is a balance between the good and the bad. Just asking for your opinion, shouldn' we propose it as a featured article? There are quite a few on India but..... we still have a LONG way to go and I think we can go that long way.

When you want to link to the article about something Persian, please do not link to Persian, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Ragib, You got it all wrong here. I was the one who asked User: venu not to indulge in PERSONAL ATTACK. During a discussion , User:Venu described me as "not valid" . I asked him not to stop .HOW DOES THAT BECOME a PERSONAL ATTACK.??????? Asking some one to stop personal attack is also a PERSONAL ATTACK to you??????. I understand that i have opposed some of your edits (which basically was pov). But that doesnt mean you have to hold that against me. Since you are a wiki administrator , I expect an impartial behaviour from you. Pls take back your warning . Have a nice day.Bharatveer 06:06, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

- Ragib, Bharatveer's initial accusation of my making personal attacks were not well founded as he took a simple typographical error to be an attack on him. I pointed this to him in his talk page. I only removed his comments from my talk page (the first time I have ever done that) is because I got fed up with the unreasonable comments by this user. I clearly see these comments as trolling. My edit history said rm trolling. I never called Bharatveer a troll. If you could advise Bharatveer to show some good faith in other editors, I think it can help him improve his contributions to WP. [edit] Notability
If you have written half a dozen books and those have sold well and are read by thousands of doctors, you deserve an artile. On the other hand, if you have just written a thesis, that is hardly seen by 10 people and read by only two (the person who types and the person who proof-reads) that may not be notable
The question was whether the AUTHOR was notable or not and not whether the RESEARCHER was notable or not. He may not have been notable as a researcher (as of now) but he is definitely a notable author. If you have considered the AFD only in relation to a researcher and not as a author, he may not be notable. What is wrong in considering the books for notability Doctor BrunoTalk 11:56, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Weat Bengal FAC
Just curious. Do not know about Bhawaiya, but Gombhira is quite popular in Malda district. And is Bhatiali only present in present day Bangladesh? I copy-pasted many stuffs from Bangladesh as a start and was improving the article (it needs quite a lot) when another user nominated it for FAC! Just like Gopal Bhar stories (popular in WB as well as Bangladesh), is not Maimansingha Gitika known in WB? What is its status in Bangladesh? In WB, yes, the mass is ignorant about it, but a sizable number of people with links to East Bengal (like me) knows about it, and my earlier generation peobably adores the gitika even more. Siraj ud-Daulah is an unpardonable ommission :( Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:24, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

- I have explained my position and you too know that the sentence has been removed. Did I not tell you that I HAVE READ in the TOI but don't have a copy of the newspaper. I wouldn't have been trying to convince you had I had the link. ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 09:13, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] delete page
the same user created this page again. Shall i warn him for that? Please delete this page, again. Thanks.nids(♂) 20:17, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A little time
I'm busy fighting off deletionists on CfD's Category:hindu mathematicians. Users accused me of "Being communal", "perpetrating massacre" and being an "RSS revisionist". It may take me a while.Bakaman Bakatalk 01:45, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Don't let the accusations stick to you. Ever seen a lotas leaf? It's like teflon ... not a drop of water sticks to it. I've been called Pro-Indian/Anti-Indian, Pro-Pakistani/Anti-Pakistani, Anti-Arakani/Rohingya, etc. etc. (at one time you found me "in cahoots" with HW, right?, he also found similar things about me :) ). Just let those tags slide off you. Also, a look at this nice guide will help calm you down.
- Incidentally, I'm doing some research on human interactions in Wikipedia ... the conflicts and resolutions would definitely make an interesting part of that. :) --Ragib 04:49, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sambad Prabhakar
Thanks for the advice. I am really surprised at your alertness. I have transferred material from Sangbad Prabhakar to Sambad Prabhakar. Nothing would be lost in deletion. -- P.K.Niyogi 03:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, I made the former a redirect to the latter. --Ragib 04:44, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Meningless references
The citation has nothing to do with Students Islamic Organization of INDIA. Maybe you dont know how and when to use references. If you do, perhaps you could tell me what Students Islamic Organization of INDIA has to do with "The Muslim World After 9/11. By Angel M Rabasa, Cheryl Benard, Peter Chalk, C Christine Fair, Theodore Karasik, Rollie Lal, Ian Lasser, Ian O Lesser, David E Thaler, Rand Corporation, ISBN 0833037129. Published January 2005." While you are at it, could you also tell me why a BANGLADESHI like you should be interested in Students Islamic Organization of INDIA? Thanks. -Dining Philosopher
Sorry I posted the above message at the top of the page by mistake. Kindly get rid of it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dining philosopher (talk • contribs).

- Sorry to see you blocked for your incivil behavior. When you emerge from your block, please feel free to ask me for any help regarding how to edit productively, and avoid conflicts with other users. Thanks. --Ragib 04:44, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Congrats. You are very powerful. Being a PhD student you should know that its okay to use material from other sources as long as you cite the source. Being a PhD student you should also know what, when, how and where to cite. Your definition of vandalism seems to be "Anybody who does not agree with me or obey me is a Vandal." Also, I find your interest in Students Islamic Organization of India to be fascinating. As an Indian, I wonder how many Pakistanis are interested in SIO. I am surprised to learn from your website that you attend Urbana-Champaign and have attended BUET. I used to have a lot of respect for these universities. As a grad student, I am also surprised to learn that you are actually on the program committee of a conference. But then again, I really am not. I have been in grad school long enough to know that people like you are perfect for academia. You will do well. Goodbye. Lets hope our paths dont cross again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dining philosopher (talk • contribs).
- Interesting. You might look into Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Students Islamic Organisation of India to see how on earth I stumbled upon this article. You might also see that I have removed all unreferenced information to improve it and prevent its deletion. But anyway, I wish you all the best. Thanks --Ragib 23:48, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] How did you know that I'm in distress?
Ragib, was it not YOU who got me banned by that 3R rule? The rule is used to dissuade users from edit warring. I suppose you did not read the rule properly. The use of the clause "potentially libelous and unreferenced material" in your complaint was WRONG. The law says that if a user breaks the 3RR for removing such material then it does not apply to him. Furthermore, if my edits were unlawful, then why no revert had been made at the time of my ban?
Any way, how did you know that I needed help this time? ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 08:33, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Ha ha, did I claim that I was REMOVING it? NO! My point is that your adding that clause was irrelevant. I know that 3RR DID apply to me but my additions to that page were NOT unreferenced at the end. 3RR did NOT serve its real purpose. It was imposed on me only for the law's sake. I'm not a vandal and do not add rubbish to any article. And by the by, why would you watch the talkpage of a peanut like me? ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 08:41, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Is it not true that you got me banned ONLY because you were offended by my language? Did you ever bother to check who has improved that Robert Vadra article? My edits were in compliance with Wikipedia:Ignore_all_rules and WP:SNOW. ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 08:51, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- I thought that the SNOW law is state that the WP is not a bureaucracy so rules that are counterproductive in a case may be overruled but the meaning of SNOW tells me that I misinterpreted. ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 09:11, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] No copyvio!
What exactly do you do on the Wikipedia? All you did today is THIS? And who told you that the article is copyrighted and cannot be produced elsewhere? Please do not dissuade other users if you yourself cannot contribute a word to this encyclopedia. Why have you targeted me? ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 20:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- "Being continuously incivil, violating copyright, adding unreferenced libel will only get you blocked for longer periods."
* I did not get the meaning of the word "incivil".
- Where did I add unreferenced libel?
- Please check the blocking policy to see if my edits calls for a ban.
- If a "material found on the web" "cut-pastes" [sic] the material from an Indian newspaper which allows its articles and editorials to be freely published then I will continue "cut-paste" [sic].
- Your present edits do count. Is it not true that you have targeted me? Should I assume that you're being a racist? ♔BADMIN♛ (आओ✍) 20:48, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re districts in Bangla wikipedia
I'll be gone for most of the weekend and watching football for the remainder but I'll put in some time next week helping out. I have to warn you that so far I am high on enthusiasm and slow on speed in Bangla... but definitely I'll do whatever I can. Thanks for the heads-up. Take care. --Antorjal 00:47, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
