Mr. Rafti is best known for his book, "The Body Piercing Encyclopedia", which is a 340+ page compilation of information contributed by many members the body modification community (some of which appears to have violated copyright but has since been corrected). Mr. Rafti is the recipient of letters of thanks for his contributions to improving body modification safety from a number of US Government agencies, and has made a significant contribution to making his work available free of charge world wide through Wikipedia. Mr. Rafti is currently working with legislators in Suffolk County NY to revise the body modification laws. Mr. Rafti is also credited with creating the "Body Modification Code of Ethics", various gauge charts, a hypoallergenic test for jewelry, a glove-sizing chart, and even with inspiring the BME encyclopedia. Mr. Rafti was subject to a very biased interview on BME that started off claiming he has made baseless attacks against the APP, but then turned around and published a twelve page letter from the APP secretary that is strong supporting evidence that Mr. Rafti was understating the level of un-professionalism in the APP. Mr. Rafti is also in possession of the complete unedited interview that he gave Mr. Larratt, regrettably as this occurred Mr. Larratt was losing his grip on reality which resulted in what he refers to as stress induced seizures, which is verifiable because it is medically documented.

The body piercing industry has a long but poorly documented history of trying to put words into people’s mouths, as can be evidenced by a review of the history tab on this page. Sadly this practice started with Mr. Simonton (A.K.A. Doug Malloy) and continues to this day, which is why Mr. Rafti created the Body Modification code of ethics, and the Body Arts Code of Ethics.

Mr. Rafti has a good working knowledge of body art practices and procedures and was fully licensed to perform said procedures at the time of his BME interview as can be proven by government records. Mr. Rafti has also received a number or letters of thanks from Government agencies for his efforts, which is also verifiable.

Mr. Rafti is currently working on his next book and several related body art projects. And after careful consideration of the cited BME article (below) and comparison to information provided by the APP (Association of Professional Piercers) Mr. Rafti is now considered the regional expert on body piercing by the Suffolk County Department of Health who refers prospective students directly to the William Rafti Institute.

Mr. Rafti researched the study that the Suffolk County board of health conducted (not to be confused with the department of health workers), and found the board to be mostly incompetent, this conclusion is based on verifiable historical and logistical evidence as well as by testimony provided by transcripts of the actual board of health meetings.

Perhaps by coincidence, shortly after Mr. Rafti challenged the Board of Health to defend themselves a significant percentage of the board of health resigned (according to the ACLU)- before Mr. Rafti requested them to resign! Also in Mid September Mr. Rafti was told that the Commissioner of the Board of Health was also resigning as of September 29, 2006 (which turned out to actually be the 30th).

The public hearing over proposed changes to the Body Art Code has been postponsed several times, read the William Rafti MySpace blog for details.

In response to his increased awareness of how mental health issues are undermining meaningful communication in the body arts (click the history tab on this page to see freedom of speech vandalism that is typical of this mindset), Mr. Rafti traveled to Switzerland to meet with many mental health care specialists, at the symposium held on the occasion of Dr. Hofmann’s 100th birthday. The result of the trip is that Mr. Rafti quickly developed an amicable business relationship with the likes of Sasha Alexander Shulgin and Ann Shulgin, and Mark McCloud (all verifiable, Mr. Rafti has correspondence, personal home phone numbers, and letters of thanks); and wrote the often-quoted article The Flower Bloomed in Front of My Eyes

Due to scandoulous actions by certain fringe elements of the body arts industry and a stated reluctance by Shannon Larratt on behalf of the faction of the body arts industry that he supports, the International Body Arts Association was formed. I have the complete unedited interview that I granted BME and would love the opportunity to countersue for damages when Shannon of BME keeps his promise to sue me (unless I admited that I stole from BME). I stole nothing, and admit to no wrongdoing, but claim that BME owes me a cash settlement.

Mr. Rafti welcomes everyone to read the BME article, even though it either reflects poorly on William Rafti or the interviewer (in Shannon's defense this happened shortly before he sought mental help).
