Rafael Reyes

Rafael Reyes Prieto (born December 5, 1849 in Santa Rosa Boyacá – died February 18, 1921) was a Colombian politician, who in 1904 became president of Colombia, being candidate of the Colombian Conservative Party.

In his years as president he received money from the United States as part of the indemnity for Panama. This brought years of progress to the Colombia but clearly the North American country got more profit from the Channel of Panama. After being president Reyes was exiled from Colombia, after suffering several attempts to kill him.
