Radole

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radole is a planet in Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov. It was one of the Association of Independent Trader Worlds, quasi-independent from the Foundation. It was the location of the Assembly of Traders in 300 F.E., in part because it was centrally located among the 27; it was also the militarily weakest..

It was a planet called a 'Ribbon World', because of the narrow band of habitable area. Because of the extremely hot star it circled, the day side was uninhabitable, but since the night side got no heat, and was lifelessly cold. A ribbon of twilight was the only inhabitable area; outside of that band was lifelessness ('There's a place twenty miles from here where the oxygen runs like water...'). It was one of the less massive planets of the Galaxy.
