Radio jockey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A radio jockey or RJ is a person who hosts a radio talk show, where he/she selects the music to be played by interacting with the audience via telephone. Lately, the term started to be associated with radio show hosts who interact online with viewers, with or without playing a song.

Etymologically, the term roots from disc jockey, a term used to describe a person who plays music in discos. However it is still uncertain when it first became popular. Its origin clearly shows a regional bias as although quite generic in description, it is used specifically in India. This confirms its Indian origin.
