Radio Announcing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radio Announcing is a public speaking event sponsored by the Pennsylvania High School Speech League. Radio announcing consists of a first round where the competitors have their own prepared radio announcement. In following rounds, the event's governing committee assigns each competitor a pre-written script, which the student must then use in his or her own manner. During each round, contestants are limited to two minutes of speaking with a fifteen second grace period. Since this event is often spoken into a microphone, participants are not given time signals and never face their judges. During both rounds, the judges have a copy of the scripts at their disposal, and score students on speaking ability and how well they follow the script. Radio announcing is rarely a division except at state-level tournaments and some local level competitions.
