[edit] Aleppo Codex

Rachel, I've asked for a citation for one of the statements you've added to Aleppo Codex; would you mind taking a look at it? Jayjg (talk) 17:46, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

I placed a comprehensive explanation of my reasons for my statement on the discussion page.

[edit] History of the Jews in England

Since you have made many contributions to related subjects, it would be great to get your help fleshing out the "modern times" section of the History of the Jews in England article. Also, any ideas for additional pictures would be helpful. --Goodoldpolonius2 22:57, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Categorisation

Hi Rachel. I saw you categorised Asher ben Jehiel as Category:Orthodox rabbis and Category:Ashkenazi Jews. I think you may be overdoing things. Ashkenazim were no seperate group until the early 1600s, and Orthodoxy became a distinct type of Judaism probably no earlier than the late 18th and early 19th century. I would also discourage categorising people as Category:Ashkenazi Jews if this is not a major part of their public persona. As for the Rosh, he was actually Sefardi for the part of his life he lived in Spain :-) JFW | T@lk 22:38, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

I have placed a refutation of this on T@lk

Well, OK, let's try again. The category Category:Orthodox rabbis only contains people from after the Middle Ages. The Rosh is already in the Middle Ages rabbis category. Until Reform, all Jews were Orthodox, and the category becomes a bit of a pleonasm. The whole thing about the Rosh becoming Sefardi was actually tongue-in-cheek, hence the -).
