Raboteau

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raboteau is a neighborhood by the sea in Gonaives in north-west Haiti . During the 1991-1994 coup against Jean-Bertrand Aristide, a group of 15 Aristide supporters were attacked and killed in this zone. In 2000 38 military officers were convicted for the crime, including paramilitary leaders Emanuel "Toto" Constant and Louis-Jodel Chamblain. On May 10, 2005, a Haitian court overturned many of the convictions, and possibly Chamblain's, setting them free, saying the court lacked the authority to hear the case.
