[edit] Bots and scripts

My scripts require Greasemonkey, which runs on Mozilla Firefox. Right-click on a script and use the menu item "Install User Script..."

Bots: User:Grammarbot

Bot/script: User:Humanbot

Scripts:

  • wpbox adds a box to the left with custom links
  • wpmark adds a box to the left with a quick link for marking with speedy deletion, various cleanup tags, and copyvio tag.
  • wpvfdhide adds a box to the left on vfd pages to quickly hide all finished discussions. This is useful for active pages and log pages.
  • wpauto will be useful for certain editing. *secrets*
    • But may be in MediaWiki and not an extension.

[edit] Mailing lists

[edit] User:Humanbot archives

[edit] User:Humanbot update 03 June 2005

On this day version two is released of the client-side User:Humanbot script. It allows you to browse the English Wikipedia on other tabs and edit it normally. en:User:Humanbot#Mailing list. r3m0t talk 09:46, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User:Humanbot update 04 June 2005

Not sent to everybody

Since you entered the mailing list while the project was down, I assume that you wanted to be told when it was up. Well, it's up. Note that it is generally unreliable at the moment and if it doesn't work now you should check back in a few hours. r3m0t talk 12:22, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User:Humanbot update 08 June 2005

Version two-two released today includes in that green box a nice count of how many articles are left. This more or less co-incides with the event of hitting only 1000 articles remaining. Also, I have re-arranged the User:Humanbot page to make it easier to get to the right stuff. Progress charts, wikicookies, wikilove and a more thorough spelling check is promised when this is completed. (and also when the exam pressure eases off a little on me) r3m0t talk 17:29, Jun 8, 2005 (UTC) Note: If you think this message was too trivial for a mailing, tell me and I'll stick to more important announcements on the list.

[edit] User:Humanbot update 13 June 2005

The spelling2 project (to work on secondary namespaces) was opened and finished. Progress charts will be available soon.

Version six-three tracks who made the edits, and rankings are available. Much of the work was done while I was asleep, explaining my low place ;).

The next project, which may even be released today, will probably fix incorrectly capitalised headings, particularly "See Also" and "External Links".

The mailing list has grown to 24 people and while that is very nice for my ego, it is rather difficult to send out updates. This is why I did not send out a notice that the spelling2 project had opened. From now on, then, you must watch User:Humanbot/announce for updates. r3m0t talk 12:06, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] spelling3 project open

This one has about 500 articles. r3m0t talk 15:20, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

It finished some time ago as most of the changes were debatable and were thus pulled. r3m0t talk 14:04, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] wpmark update 03 June 2005

On this day a new version of wpmark is released. It fills in edit summaries. Updating is highly recommended. r3m0t talk 10:16, Jun 3, 2005 (UTC)

For your scripts, which are infinitely useful, you get a Barnstar. Remember to wax it daily for that shine!User:Luigi30 (Υσηρ ταλκ ΛυηγηΛ) 16:18, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

For using your creative programming to Wikipedia's benefit, while maximizing the skills of its human contributors, I give you another barnstar! (I hope you don't mind me putting them in a gallery for you...) — Catherine\talk 23:57, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Stuff which stresses me

  1. Reports I make not being worked on.
  2. Mailing list discussions going on for too long and repeating the same points.
  3. Being on Wikipedia while I ought to be doing coursework.
  4. Seeing my computer's power being wasted.
  5. Slow servers.
  6. WP:RFAr (arbitration) in general.

[edit] Stuff which unstresses me

  1. Seeing nice user pages, awards (barnstars), etc.
  2. Seeing the fund drive succeed so wonderfully.
  3. Handing coursework in.
  4. Programming (yum).
  5. Incredibly fast server performance (for more than a few pageloads).
  6. Leaving the computer overnight to make reports.
  7. Reading the funny stuff from April Fool's Day (Delete the Main Page, etc)

[edit] Report-related stuff

I have made some reports about repeated words based on database dump of 7 January. I will write something to check the current version (using Special:Export) and post them in a few days. Stay tuned! 19:32, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Done. See /Reports. 00:02, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Inactive Wiki Fixup Projects
Are inactive, unsystematic, have no lists, or don't need help.
Thoughts on remaking
Wiki Syntax Project - Fix mismatched, unopened, and unclosed link brackets, parentheses, wiki quotes and tables, bad redirects and section headings. (out of date) Can remake, need source or to write own code (not in PHP, too slow!)
Incorrectly-capitalized "External links" sections. (completed at the moment) Can remake, need source/query but not very diffic
Wikipedia:Offline reports - Many, including Very short pages that are not marked as stubs, Substantial articles that are marked as stubs, and articles containing a redirect back to themselves. (out of date) Can remake, seems boring
Missing Redirects - Add redirects and disambigs that appear to be missing. (out of date) Could remake, too recent though
Repeated words - Quickly fix commonly repeated words (e.g. "and and", "that that"). ~500 entries left with many false positives. Can't remake, too recent

/Reports (currently only repeated words, all done at the moment)

Notes: If you find problems that you can't fix (or it's too much effort), it would be very helpful if you could place a note on the Talk: page. Articles need to be checked for 1) Accuracy (Factchecking: Are there any mistakes? Is the writing precise? Are sources cited?), 2) Completeness (Any obvious omissions? Does it need illustration?) 3) Quality of writing (Copyedits: Grammar and spelling, phrasing, structure) 4) Neutrality (Is it written from the NPOV? Do we document all relevant points of view?) — Thanks!
Image:Evolution-tasks-old.pngTo-do list for Digital signature edit
  • Describe cryptanalysis of digital signatures -- what are the various notions of security for a signature scheme?
  • Mention the common association of message encryption with digital signatures.
