R.U. Seerius

R.U. Seerius (Born Jon Brewer) is a British musician and eccentric politician in the Official Monster Raving Loony Party. He is an accomplished banjo player who supplements his income to pay for his Loony Party activities by bus driving. Seerius played in a band called Shamus O'Blivion and the Megadeth Morrismen from 1991 to 2002. He is currently a member of the "Gothic?" Black Pig Border Morris Group based in Nottinghamshire.

Seerius changed his name by deed poll in order to stand for the Official Monster Raving Loony Party in Erewash at the 2001 general election, winning 428 votes (nearly 1%). He also stood for the party at the Leicester South by-election in 2004 and won 225 votes. RU Seerius became England's first OMRLP shop steward in 2003, and was elected to Sawley Parish Council in 2005. He is the OMRLP's Shadow Minister for Uncommitted Manifesto Commitments.

He is the first candidate to stand in a Parliamentary election with no first name.

When asked by a reporter what were his intentions, as he had lost the 2001 election, he replied that "he would consider (finance permitting) standing for the Euro elections, but would first have to change his name to "Hugo Shoveit". The reporter then asked "and what are your policies?"

At the general election in 2005 R.U. Seerius stood again in Erewash, which had national attention due to the candidacy of Robert Kilroy-Silk; he won 287 votes. Entertainment was provided outside the venue by an improptu dancing display by the Black Pig Border Morris. When asked by a reporter his views on Kilroy not winning he is said to have replied "It only goes to show...The future isnt Orange"

His policy commitments include:

• he would not want Britain to join the Euro, instead he would invite other countries to join the Pound.
• setting up a public enquiry to find out if the Hokey-Cokey is really what it is all about
• ensuring all fast food be clearly labelled "May contain traces of real food".
• ensuring all fast food be clearly labelled "Strictly for oral use"
• setting up another public enquiry to find out if "Things Are That Bad" and "If They Are Out to Get You".
